Five Female Marines Feared Dead
CBS/AP ^ | June 24, 2005

A suicide car bomber slammed into a U.S. military convoy in Fallujah, killing two Marines, a Pentagon spokesman said Friday. Three Marines and a sailor were missing after the attack.

CBS News National Security Correspondent David Martin reports that five female Marines are said to be dead, according to officials. They are members of a supply unit who were being driven into Fallujah to assist in searching local women for hidden weapons when their vehicle, which was equipped with armor, was struck by the bomber.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said another 13 Marines were wounded in the Thursday night attack and said some women were among the casualties.

The car bomber targeted troops assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force, an earlier military statement said. Fallujah, the Anbar province town 40 miles west of Baghdad, was the scene of a large-scale campaign in November by U.S. troops to rout militants.

An earlier report also had said six Marines were killed.

Follow the terror back to its SOURCE and wipe out the source
The financial sources and spiritual sources as well as man power and infrastructure sources...

And go after the weapons sources....and those who sell and transport them..

imo

If you look at my first post on this thread---I have similar confusion about my feelings... but then, I asked myself how I would feel if I found out they were all men Marines....

When I realized that I would feel just as bad....I knew my priorities are okay...

I also heard that the trucks they were in were very well armored, but open at the top----and the blast was just huge...

I hope some dem like Durbin doesn't USE this episode BECAUSE they were women, and make it a political talking point...

I don't know if they care, but al-jazeera using Dickie Durbin doesn't help---

I have been hearing that some of the suicide bombers are really Iraqi citizens that are being forced to do it by the insurgents threatening the families...I think I also heard that they have been found, tied to the steering wheel.

The thing that is ironic about this whole war on terror is, IMHO, these "people" that are doing this, and giving orders, would never be able to run their own country if they ever did kill everyone and take a country over...

They don't know how to do anything but kill....which isn't good training for sustaining a communities needs...

This is so sad to lose five or six of our service people at once. We are trying our best over there to wage a just and proper military action within all the rules, even the ones the other side keeps making up.

The women Marines feared dead were there to search female Muslims and follow the Islamic rules on no contact between the sexes with someone not a relative or spouse. We do this to show how we are good and respectful of others. I know we try to be better than our enemies, but it's hard when the enemy sinks to such low and vile levels.

The enemy wants us to react with harsh measures to put us in a bad light. It is playing to the UN and leftist liberals here in the USA. The rest of us just have to gut it out and pray our service men and women come back safe. Also, tell a liberal to grow a spine when one says we need to wimp out of Iraq.

These women had absolutely no business in Iraq. I hope that there were no mothers among the dead.

Yeah, that looks like what we did to the Muslims, Dick. Looks just like Gitmo, doesn't it, you bastard.

Don't confuse Little Dickie Turbin with the facts.

I am sure the Pentagon considered this possiblity of what is happening, but I guess even hardened military men would find it hard to be cynical enough to think that after being attacked on USA mainland soil, for the FIRST time,

and having 3000 people killed, that the same generation that lived the disastrous outcome of the Vietnam War, would learn from the mistakes back then, and wouldn't repeat them again...

Unfortunately, when Kerry, and Kennedy are in the Senate, you have the two biggest contributers of the "anti-war, bring the troops home, and to hell with the Vietnamese," group!!!

Hyperbolic nonsense.

Yeah, I know. But that's why I'm not in charge -- nor would I ever be in a position to answer to someone who IS in charge.

If this kind of sh!t were happening in Afghanistan, you'd have a point. But since the war in Iraq has nothing to do with "attacks on USA mainland soil" and "3000 people killed," the analogy isn't really valid.

You don't think the war in Iraq has anything to do with the War on Terror?

we don't even seem to use air power any more. why can't apaches escort these convoys and destroy any vehicles that approach them from the air?

this event will knock another couple of points off of US public support for the war.

If women have no business being in Iraq then we should get all women out of the military. They are just taking a slot if they have to stay stateside.

What the heck is a "war on terror?"

Terrorism is a method, not an enemy. As long as we insist on this silly way of doing business, I expect the "War on Terror" to be about as successful as the "War on Drugs," "War on Poverty," "War on Illiteracy," etc.

we don't have that kind of intel on the ground, and enough local cooperation, to make that possible. sure, once in a while we do and can act on it. but its not enough, the iraqi citizens are more worried about why they can't run their air conditioners then rooting this insurgency out.

Does anyone know: Are the missing Marines thought to have been captured or is this a situation where they can't find/identify remains?

Answered my own question:

MSNBC - "Three Marines and a sailor believed to be in the vehicle are currently listed as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown pending a positive identification" of the bodies, the statement said.
