Three Other Suspected Thieves Flee Scene
HOUSTON -- A northeast Houston homeowner shot a suspected thief who he caught trying to steal his pickup truck Wednesday morning, police told Local 2.
The shooting happened outside the man's home on Richland at Sultan at about 4:15 a.m. shortly after four men arrived in a stolen Cutlass Ciera.
Police said the homeowner heard something going on outside, grabbed his shotgun and went outside to investigate.
Investigators said the homeowner fired the gun after one of the suspected thieves fired a gun at him first.
One of the suspects was struck in the back. He was transported to Ben Taub Hospital and is expected to survive.
The three other suspects fled the scene.
A nearby resident told Local 2 that the area has repeatedly experienced problems with car theft and vandalism.
"They are kicking in the brake lights, stealing the CD players out of our vehicles. The cops ain't done nothing about it so far," neighbor Kenneth Mallard said.
The Harris County District Attorney's Office will decide if the homeowner will face charges in the shooting.

If you want on/off this list, FRmail me.
I am sure that they issue report and give the victim case number and head for DonkyDonutz. "Job done".
What happened to undercover sting operations to catch the thieves?
"The Harris County District Attorney's Office will decide if the homeowner will face charges in the shooting."
What is there to decide? This is Texas. The thief is lucky the owner missed.
If he wants another term he had better decide against it.

In my experience you're half right. It's usually off to the next report and issue a case number all shift unless the s**T hits the fan somewhere. DonkyDonutz might not be my first choice for a lunch break however. KrispyKarbs is much better. Besides the actual criminal, I like to place some blame for these types of situations on the liberal courts and legislatures who do nothing to punish these property crime a-holes. Kinda takes the motivation out of doing sting operations when prosecutors won't file charges until the umpteenth arrest. I'm a tad bit jaded on this issue since wood shampoos have been strongly discouraged as a crime fighting tool.
If the theft occurred at 4:15 AM
I believe the Guy will not be charged in TX.
Tx considers anyone commiting a crime against your person or property during the night to be armed, since it is unreasonable for a victim to be able to discern if the perpetrator is armed during darkness
This Texas Law should be the "Law of the Land" Citizens should also be allowed to carry a sidearm without a license. Where can I check the "Carrying Laws" for PA??
Packing.org
The DA need not waste his time. A jury not only would acquit they would take the homeowner to dinner after the trial and give him a hero medal and new shells for his shotgun.
God I love Texas, one of the few Free States left in the Union.
The only"charges"that the homeowner should face(if any)are that his marksmanship is sadly lacking! His sentence should be that he be required to spend an hour each week at a range until it improves!!
Make your first shell a 00 buck( at least #4's), and the second a #8. That way, if it's a varmit, just jack it once and your ready. If it's a 2 legged varmit, just use the 1st shell without making a sound.
Thanks for the ping!
