Likes like the First Pitch of a whole new Ball game.

Lets us hope Dubya has a "High and Tight Fast Ball" for the DUmmys in the Senate.

According to Fox News, he will NOT announce a nominee to replace her.

So, it's the typical "Sandra Day O'Conner is a great American, we thank her for her wonderful service" type speech.

Evidently..........it would be cool, however, if the Pres. threw down the gauntlet to the rats, warning them against fillibustering SCOTUS nominations......

Remember, he must consult with the democrats before he announces a nominee.

Sounds like he's saying that, in a roundabout way. He won't come right out and say it, and I don't know if anyone would...not on our side, anyway. I guess that's why I'm not a politician. I don't have the temperament.

Prediction question: No matter who gets confirmed how long do you think it will be before someone is sworn in on the Supreme Court to replace O'Connor...

My guess... December 2005.

The Dems will go berserk.

The weak chain in this link is the 3-5 squishy so called moderate senators.

Maybe we should do some "seminar calling" of our own, and call up on the Liberal line and say: "I'm a lifelong liberal and have voted for McGovern, Dukakis, and Kerry... but I'm sick of the politics that my people in Washington are playing. The Supreme Court nomination is too important to play filibuster games with - if the Democrats in Congress filibuster, then I'll never vote for a Democrat again."

Actually, it is Friday. A Friday before a three day weekend. No one announces any thing serious they want the public to know about on a Friday.

The democrats will find themselves in a politically untenable position if they drag their feet, IMHO.

Many reasons why you don't announce right away...

1. Give O'Connor a few moments in the sun. Let the editorials and accolades flow.

2. More importantly, time the announcement on your terms, not the press' and not the democrats'. There's some talk about waiting for a while, because Congress will go into Summer recess soon and any nominee will be sitting out there like a pinata for months before the hearings and voting begin. On the other hand, you many want to get the name out there so the opposition fires their guns prematurely and the dust has time to settle.

Regardless, he doesn't need to do anything today. He has multiple names (primary + backups)...he'll announce the person when he's ready.
