Gonzalez would be a historic "first" Hispanic Supreme Court Justice
-Why is first in quotation marks? He would be the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. I can see she wants to make light of that, but then shouldn't historic be the word put in quotations? He would literally be the first but, from her point of view, it wouldn't be very historic.
I don't think its very important that he is Hispanic but he would still be the first, unless I am missing a previous Judge who was of Hispanic decent.

It is so hard to tell them apart once they get to Washington. As further evidence, Just look how Bush 41 & Barbara now treat Slick. I think Slick used the term adopted son.

They've gone from trying to, ironically, convince everyone that they have no freedom of speech, to trying to, ironically, convince everyone that everyone who doesn't support George W. Bush is being stoned and beheaded in the streets.
The next one I hear whining about his/her patriotism being questioned will get a big "you bet it is!" from me.

She could have put the scare quotes around Hispanic, but...
There was a Portuguese (and yes, Portuguese is considered Hispanic) SC justice in the 1930's named Benjamin Cardozo. What she is saying is that even though he is ot technically the first Hispanic, his appointment would still be one of those minority-group breakthroughs.

I believe part of the energy of any abortion extremists is that they wish they had not been born. I;ve known a few cases where that was so.

I didn't know about Cardozo, thanks for the information. I guess then she is correct. He really wouldn't be the "first".

McLain Stevenson is dead. You're thinking of Wayne Rodgers.

Perhaps their ability to deliver on such threats (indebted as this White House is to their ilk) means the time has arrived to board the plane for Tehran. I'm still waiting for them to keep their earlier promises of leaving if Bush won. Maybe it's time to remind them to go.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Stevenson died a few years after stepping out of his star turn as the commanding officer on M*A*S*H. "Or, do I owe little Tiffany an apology?"

I hope so. I refuse to believe that there are that many insane people in this country.

McLain Stevenson is now SO dead, you'd have trouble recognizing him.
To: dangus
Cardozo was a Sephardic Jew. Although you might logically consider them Hispanic, as they spoke Spanish for centuries as Ashkenazis spoke Yiddish, they might not have agreed, as the Spanish made very strenuous attempts to exterminate them.
FWIW, my understanding is that the US government does not classify Portugese-speaking people as "Hispanic." So someone from Spain who moves here immediately qualifies as a member of an oppressed minority who qualifies for goodies, while someone who moves here from Portugal (right next door) or Brazil does not. They're just classified as "white," unless perhaps they can claim enough African or Indian blood to fit into the "black" or "native American" classifications.
Many dictionaries, OTOH, define "hispanic" as anyone from Spain, Portugal or all of Latin America.
The idiocy of trying to pigeonhole people never ends.

Tell Bonnie I know the perfect Burqua-tailor . . . and I'm sure she'll look smashing all in black! And she'd also better be careful she rides in the right elevator. My goodness; what idiots these left-wing feminists are! They assume that not being able to get an instant abortion is the worst tragedy that could befall them. They really should be forced to live in these Islamic countries that they so admire, and experience some real oppression.
