Two ( UCONN ) BB players under investigation

University police are investigating a series of laptop computer thefts that occurred at Charter Oak Suites earlier this month and according to two Connecticut newspapers, two Husky basketball players are under investigation.

The New London Day and The Hartford Courant, quoting "university sources," reported on June 21 that guards Marcus Williams and A.J. Price are being investigated in the theft of 10 laptop computers from Charter Oak Suites from June 9 to June 15. The Day also reported that two of the victims are incoming freshman women's basketball players Renee Montgomery and Kalana Greene.

UConn Police Capt. Craig Rich confirmed that an investigation into the thefts is underway.

"We're investigating a number of reported burglaries at Charter Oak Suites," Rich said. "Several of the burglaries involved the theft of laptops and at this point we have recovered four stolen laptop computers."

The Courant reported that university police are investigating a third man who is an acquaintance of Williams and has left the state. However, Rich would not name suspects in the case.

"Suspects have been identified, but we're not elaborating any further than that," Rich told The Daily Campus June 22. UConn Police also declined to name identified suspects in a press release.

According to published reports, neither player has been arrested or taken into police custody for questioning as of press time. The Courant also reported that neither player has a criminal record.

Williams, who is entering his junior year for the Huskies, was an integral part of last year's Big East co-regular season championship team. He started all 31 of the team's games, averaging 9.6 points and 7.8 assists in an average of 31 minutes per game. During his freshman year, Williams sat out the second half of the season, including the team's run to a national championship, due to academics. Price, a red-shirted freshman, missed all of last season after recovering from a near-fatal intracranial hemorrhage. They were both expected to see extensive playing time this season.

An Athletic Communications spokesperson had no comment when reached on June 21.

Yes.

My 11 yr old think's the world of Dale Earnhart Jr.

Sadly though, even the Nascar hero's have bad moments: June Bug once said the word "sh!t" on national TV.

He actually said it again last week - but that was on In-Car-Camera.

What is this world coming to?

Obviously you have some sort of ax to grind, since you are both posting old "news" and then responding to yourself.

To put your mind at ease regarding "role models" I would respectfully recommend that you google "Emeka Okafor" and see what it turns up....

To address your "if true" speculation...the "scandal" aspects of this story have had very little staying power. It appears to be shaping up to be a college prank, and nothing more.

Jim Calhoun still seems to feel that both Price and Williams will be in the starting lineup this fall.... and if he were facing a potentially significant problem with his back court (losing either and especially both of these kids would be a very significant issue) he might have made some mention of it in the past month or so....

What makes you so certain I'm not black?

Not certain , but must admit that I assumed you were not . All I said was that not many black kids were into Nascar . Please correct me if I am wrong about that , I've been away from the USA for quite a while .

I think I understand what you were trying to say.

Have you ever been to a Nascar race?

Tons of kids - of all ages.

Most white, but I think you might be surprised at the level of miniority interest.

Nascar is making a very concerted effort to get the non-white population involved - and the "non-male" types involved even more.

For obvious reasons, of course - $$.

The Busch race in Mexico City this year was a huge hit - first time ever. I'm betting they go back next year. If I remember right, 6 or so "local" drivers. You think that was a hit with the local fans? Huge. Several of those drivers made / make appearances in the rest of the Busch series as well as the Grand Champ car series.

Bill Lester - fellow brother :) - driving in the Truck series.

Uphill battle for sure, but I think Nascar is really trying to do this right.

My point was, though, you don't see any of the crap with the Nascar guys that you see in any other sport. A few instances of drivers testing positive for drugs - suspended faster than you can say "Gentlemen, start your engines."

Good, clean, loud, paint swapping, high speed fun!

My uncle Harry and a man by the name of Johnny Evers started Riverhead Raceway out on Long Island in 1952 .
Went many times as a kid and as an adult until I moved to Japan in 1985 .

Very cool, indeed.

Local tracks are just awesome. Many times, as a kid, I went to the local track for Sat night racing.

I'm glad I live in a town that has that available.

Except for today - 117 degrees - racing cancelled.

Thanks for sharing that, very much enjoyed it.

I came from a small town and there were two guys like that - knew my Mom and Dad well, went to school together, ect.

Seems like they had been everywhere and done everything, and were more than "glad" to share their esperiences.

Good folks, to the bone.

And I'm glad I got to know them!

Thanks, again.
