This is what the GOP has boiled down to: Playing the race card instead of grooming a real conservative for Bush's replacement.
I would like to see Condi run. Her main weakness is lack of executive experience. That can be made up for, IMHO, by a strong Republican party still in control of congress and the executive branch.
A strong Republican presence can lessen the problems she will face with the wackadoo rats. Any domestic or foreign policy intiatives by Rice can be helped immensely by a united party. And I think she would be well received overseas.
As for her being Secretary of State, she can resign close enough before the election to campaign effectively.
Eventually, she'll have to do what Powell did - actually take positions on some issues, and all this support will evaporate.
Here's a toast to the wishful thinking post of the day.
Regardless of what one may say about Hillary, she knows "the rules" insofar as running for president is concerned.
Rule #1 (above all others): anyone to be taken seriously as a presidential contender must run for - and win - elected office of national stature FIRST.
This is why Hillary _will_ be a presidential candidate in 2008, with a damn good chance of winning. She has learned the rules and is playing the game.
When I see Ms. Rice run for - and win - a Senatorial seat, a governorship, even the House, she will be taking the necessary steps by which to be considered a presidential contender (at least among folks other than some Freepers).
She has yet to do so.
At this point in time, Hillary is "the contender". Condoleeza is not.

It's sickening, isn't it? Besides Rice has already told Hannity point-blank that she isn't running for President. The promoting of Rice for President is nothing but a wet-dream facillitated by die-hard GOP party hacks.

The very fact that she's not filled with unmitigated ambition - the "I'll rule the world" attitude of the Clintons - is another outstanding indicator that she'd be an excellent president.
How about just letting her and Illary fight it out WWE style, winner take all?
I think presiding over the State Department, at this time in our history, provides greater qualification than Governor and certainly Senator. Four out of George Washington's five successors were Secretary of States (although Jefferson was also a Governor), but those guys did ok as President.
A Condi campaign's strength could also be it's weakness. Since she has no real campaigning experience, she could be a breath of fresh air on the campaign, or an uncharismatic disaster. But if she succeeds in the former, it would gut the entire Clinton playbook, considering that if there would be any campaign in history that will master the "by-the-book" political stragems it would be the 08 Clinton machine. Hillary is very methodical and unspontaneous, so they will have their attacks and speeches well schemed in advance, like a champion chess player.
They will have spent more money in their campaign--Hollywood, big media, along w/ normal hard and soft money--than any campaign in history. It will be organized, centered around Hillay's domineering persona. That money and coordination will buy them alot in political tactics and strategic overthink. Frankly, the GOP won't be able to compete against that in a normal campaign. A traditional Republican politician, a George Allen or Jeb Bush, who would respond to the Clintonian attacks in a traditional by-the-book manner, might play right into the buzzsaw of the Clintons' machines moves. A nontraditional Republican politician, an Eisenhower like character (a Condi Rice or a Tommy Franks), might just float above the game and leave the Clintons' schemes. The Clintons would need someone to come to the chess table in order to win in 08. The Republicans need someone who can avoid the "game" but still go straight to the people.

Rice is no conservative. She's pro abortion rights and pro affirmative action. She has never been elected to public office. If she's the nominee, I will right in someone else, even if Hillary is the democrat nominee.
But, Rice will never get the nomination so no need to worry. Mccain is a far greater problem.

I wasn't old enough to vote in 1994 (I turned 18 in August 1995)...but I was a budding young conservative!
My gf and I can't normally discuss politics. I hate to admit she's a "blame-America-first" liberal.
