But when I listened to the mp3, there was another voice who said that, and Trump immediately tried to distance himself from the remark.

I looked online and I couldn't find a listing of the members of that committee; I was looking for somebody from NY.

This part:

(TheDonald) Sell the United Nations site, which is one of the greatest sites in the world, for much more money than the whole thing would cost, and you end up building a free United Nations at the World Trade Center, where I don't think anybody's going to want to stay anyway. I think it's going to be a very, very hard rent up at the World Trade Center.

But let's assume that's not going to happen. Not a bad idea, though.

Unidentified voice: ...got no problem with that.

The Donald: Not too bad. He's got no problem, and most people don't have...

Unidentified voice: Put Kofi Annan on the top floor.

The Donald: Okay. I won't get into...I didn't say that.

Thanks for the ping, Star.

I never liked Donald Trump until now. After reading this, I think he's great.

My favorite quote:

I'm listening to these people that are very naive, and I respect them, but they're very naive in this world. Now, I might be naive in their world. But in this world, they're naive.

About 90% of what Donald said about NYC construction is true.

There is abcolutely no reason why the UN neds to vacate the building completely during construction. Asbestos abatement is easily done on overtime with minimum disruption. It takes about 48 hours to clear a space completely. And they could reskin the building while the building is fully occupied.

Mine is
"And he read an article in the New York Times, saying that the building cost approximately $300 million dollars to build. So, he wrote me a letter, and ultimately called me, and said is it possible that that building cost $300 million dollars, because it just seems so much bigger, and so much better, and so much more expensive, and so much more luxurious. And how could you have done that for $300 million dollars, when, at that time, Senator, they were talking about $1.5 billion dollars to renovate the United Nations. And this was around December of 2000. And I said well, there's only two reasons. Either gross incompetence, or something far worse than that. And you know what the something is, and that's corruption. Because there's absolutely no way that that building could have cost $1.5 billion dollars to build."

I begin to see why Trump is given so much publicity!

I suspect that part of the problem has to do with each country's security requirements, especially for communications and the integrity of their offices. They can't permit their commo areas to be compromised and there is always the fear of listening devices being implanted in the walls and ceilings. Each country would have to relocate its commo facilities during the asbestos abatement phase, regardless of how long it took. That could still be done on a phased basis. They could relocate to the CG's residence or have their embassy in Washington take over for them in the interim.

Absolutely hilarious!

Donald Trump nails the UN and its usual incompetence (this time in rebuilding their NYC building). Read it up or listen it here: 07-22thedonald.mp3

Thanks to Hugh Hewitt for airing it.

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of good stuff that is worthy attention. You can see the list of articles I pinged to lately on my page.

Besides this one, I keep separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson, Orson Scott Card, David Warren and Lee Harris (sometimes). You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about).

Personally, I don't like "The Donald" (he has made more money allowing his name to be used than what he has done) but I do respect him. He would be a great general contractor for the rebuild and he said he would do it for free. Of course that free rebuild would include a 100 year maintenance and administration contract - The Donald will get paid in one way or another.

I suppose it is too much to hope for...the towers rebuilt.

Maybe it is too much to hope for, but I also would prefer to see the towers rebuilt.

Great bump on this. I actually heard the whole thing on the radio, and it was hilarious. Even the Committee was cracking up at some points.
