"In addition to performing at higher speeds and pressures than the .500 Linebangh Long, the .500 S&W also differs in having a case length of 1.625" as compared to 1.610", and also uses a true .500" bullet rather than the .511" size .500 Linebaugh and Linebaugh Longs utilize."

I'd rather have a hotrodded Bisley. The S&W is almost big enough that you need a tripod and a sling. It's just too big to pack around.

I think the .500 S and W is really a rifle cartridge.

Does anyone here own one? I was close to buying the 4" one or the next larger. I really would like to know if anyone has the 4" one out there...

I got to shoot a cylinder full of these out of SW's X-frame about a month after it first came out. After 3 rounds, I had to set it down. Too much horsepower for my wrists to handle. Fun to shoot, though.

Mine has a wheelbarrow wheel mounted to the barrel underlug. (grin)

Think I'll stay with my 44 Mags and Single-shot Contender chambered in 357 Max/SuperMag and 6.5X50R.

Regards

I agree. My general-purpose carry-around weapon of choice:

Yep, my .454 Casull is all I can handle. This one looks to have more recoil than I want to deal with. You have to be able to hit what you are aiming at. If not it does one no good.

I also have a TC Contender in .357 Max. I had a 14 inch heavy barrel made up by Bullberry Barrel Works. I cannot get the gun to shoot under 5 inches at 50 yards. It could be my technique, but I wonder, do you have any good, accurate handload data for the .357 Max?

My 454 SRH is almost too big to pack around, but it's puny compared to the S&W.

Interesting. That's the first time I've seen an actual rifle powder (RL 7) used in the .357 Max; it figures, since the cartridge really is more like a rifle round.

Oh that is SO sweet. :)

As for the .500 Linebaugh Long?

I suggest renaming it to the ".500 LIMBAUGH Long".

Why?

Just to drive liberals insane.

Like it's broadcasting namesake. :)
