Novak Walkout Bigger Than Clinton's?

CNN commentator Robert Novak's decision to storm off the set of "Inside Politics" yesterday has already received four times as much news coverage as a similar meltdown by ex-President Clinton.

Clinton walked out in the midst of a 1994 interview with NBC in Prague.

A Lexis-Nexis search conducted midday Friday turned up 39 stories on the Novak tantrum, detailing how the conservative columnist exploded during a debate with fellow CNN'er James Carville, yanked off his microphone and walked away.

Novak's actions were almost a mirror image of Clinton's, who pulled the plug on a Jan. 14, 1994 interview with NBC reporter Jim Miklaszewski after becoming angry that the NBC'er had dared to ask him about Whitewater.

"You've had your two questions, Jim," Clinton snarled. "I'm sorry you're not interested in the trip." The president then leaped to his feet, tore off his microphone and stormed off the set.

The next day, Clinton was asked about his tantrum during an interview on ABC's "Nightline."

"There's no point in going into it now," he insisted. "I don't have to talk about it anymore."

Despite the fact that the presidential meltdown came in the midst of a network television interview, the episode attracted surprisingly little media attention.

A Lexis-Nexis search turned up just 9 reports on Clinton's tantrum for the entire week after it happened.

James Carville and Mary Matalin are the twin whores of American Politics.....he is obnoxious for being a liberal, she is obnoxious for being a mindless Republican...

Big baby Clinton welcomed these silly excuses where he could pretend to me a victim of the media. I think he thought it made him look like a hero. I forget what the subject was when he was doing a print interview once where the reporter asked him a question he didn't like. Clinton made some phony, forgettable statement and told the guy to "put that in your damn liberal paper." Oh poor baby, the right wing media were so mean to him!!

I've read your b.s. before, and it was b.s. then and it is b.s. now. Time for you to grow up and open your eyes. Either run with the big boys, or stay under the porch!

I recall seeing a Rose Garden event in which Clinton was asked an unwelcome question. His face turned a bright red and he stalked back into the White House. I don't remember the occasion or the nature of the question.

I don't think it was the Ginsburg event.

Well thank you, but the reason I don't watch TV is because my husband has the remote and he doesn't watch it right.

By that I mean he surfs, finds something he likes and watches. When the commercials come on he goes to another station and watches until the commercials come on and then he goes back to channel #1. Of course we have missed 5 or 10 minutes of it........... You get the picture? I'd rather read.

Anyone in the vicinity of Carping Carville would blow up if he was given free rein as most moderators allow with that creep.

He should hire himself out for Alien movies and stay out of politics. He's definitely Star Trek material.

I saw the video. Novack did not "storm out" nor did he have a "tantrum". He calmly stated he was tired of the bullsh*t and walked off the set.
Can't blame him.

You could be right. I would bet a Lexus account holder could get the straight scoop.

But what I do remember is Brit really sent Clinton into a tailspin and Ginsburg did not hide her loony leftist views.

So why is Roberts hiding his conservatism? If I were Roberts I would challenge the Senators to find that right to privacy, pass out Constitutions and wait for answers. That's what Ginsburg did in reverse.

Thanks for the link.

Dee Dee: Miklaszewski is sitting there. He asks, boom, Whitewater, boom Whitewater, boom Whitewater. And the president just took off his microphone. He said, "You know, I thought we were going to talk about the summit, but if your viewers want," whatever he said, famous thing, throws the microphone on the chair and walks out of the room and proceeds to scream at me for about 10 minutes. He has this thing that he used to do because I'm sure he still does it, this kind of finger in your face, like this.* That was the worst I ever got yelled at by him -- just in my face for like 10 minutes because here he was trying to do his job as president and back home this nagging thing was rearing its ugly head again, and I couldn't stop the press from asking about it. You know, "Why do we do this? Why do you sit me down? Why can't you control what these people do?"

Little did we know how much wagging of his crooked finger we would have to endure over the coming years.

[ Carville then said something like, "Bob, you just have to prove yourself to your right wing fans like you did in that editorial." Novak got up and said, "this is B.S." ]

God forbid Bob would use the words socialist, traitor or seditionist or something even more creative like left wing cabal or even ultra left wing ideologue to describe Carvile..

WALKING OFF.. is so NOT THERE..
I hate it when pseudo journalists get uppity..
Novak probably THINKS Ann Coulter is hyperbolic when everything she says IS THE TRUTH.. There is literally no way to express current american politics without hyperbole..

i.e. Bob Novak is WRONG by NOT using hyperbole.. not only wrong in essense but wrong in content and demeanor.. Theres a time for hyperbole. and that time is NOW.. Bob Novak is a coward.. a simpering coward, like that fugitive from the hangman, Gergen..

Great Post.

Agree 100 percent.

A lot of these MSM clowns think they are doing a great job by being obnoxious and asking stupid questions. Case in point, Dick Gregory and Scott McClellan. The White House press secretary should have simply left the podium when these braying hounds started calling him a liar over the Rove-Plame nonsense.

I was going to write the same thing. I even read in some article that Novak "yelled" - which of course in absurd.

I also find the transcript misleading. Novak walked out because Carville was interuppting and TALKING OVER HIM. The moderator did not go back to Novak to let him finish his point but went to Carville and asked him a question.

After Novak walked, the moderator than acted like nothing had happened - which made me laugh.

Novak no longer has Capital Gang, he needs to walk over to MSM or FOX.

The incident I remember was later than the Ginsburg event-I was definitely on FR then (1998 or later). It must have had something to do with Monica, directly or indirectly.
