You are against the war in Iraq to remove Saddam, then?

You must be if you do not believe it the responsibility of man to act as God's agents in this world.

You obviously do not believe that God accomplishes his will when he wants to if you believe that Pat's comments could cause one person He desires saved to not be saved.

I suggest you read The Sovereignty of God by AW Pink.

You are seriously deficient in an understanding of Biblical theology.

I suggest you do some reading.

Love your enemies is for persons, not nations.

Any statement by man will not stop God from saving whom he wants to save.

Also don't forget Paul saying the government has the authority to be the sword of God.

Not their enemies...his enemies.

Excuse me but when you are God's people, His enemies are YOUR enemies.

And only at a specific time in history.

Right. As if God just stepped out of the picture and could care less about victory of evil powers on the world scene.
I don't think so.

As Jesus said, Love your enemies.

Wow, that is a great foreign policy.
Let's all be hippies and use flower power to get America's terrorist enemies and world dictators to love us.

I don't think this is what Jesus intended.

Any statement by man will not stop God from saving whom he wants to save.

If that was the case then there is no reason to witness or spread the Gospel message, because God will simply save those He wants to save.

This is not what the Bible teaches.

We still have a responsibility to spread the Gospel because he commands us and that is how he will save his elect.

But, He is Sovereign, and if he wants to save a person, it will happen. That doesn't mean we can just sit on our butts and do nothing because God works through our words.

Yes, you are right about this.

But Jesus says salvation is offered to all men.
If all men could not be saved then this would be a farce.

So God is sovereign and saves who He choses, but man also has a responsibility, and if he hears and accepts the Gospel message, he WILL be saved.

It is sad watching pansy-assed Christians who have NO concept of how God works in both testaments and who somehow think Christians are to sit back and accept injustice and evil in the world instead of fighting against it because we are to "turn the other cheek."

Advancing American foreign policy interests is not synonomous with advancing Christianity.

I am so damn sick and tired of lazy Christians and liberals who have twisted Scripture way beyond what those NT Scriptures were ever meant to be taken. No one here is twisting Scripture but those that are backing Robertson's statements.

There is an amazing uniformity between the two testaments if you have a PROPER and Biblical covenant theology that the Reformers taught.

Prostelytyze elsehwere.

I did not realize we can pick and choose what parts of Scripture have lessons for us.

It depends on what lessons you are choosing to learn. Taking the historical chronicles of God telling the Israelites to fight HIS enemies in the 20th century BC should not be taken as some blanket command for Americans to destroy any enemy it sees fit to destroy. Like I said earlier, America is not ancient Israel, this isn't the Old Testament era, and Pat Robertson is not God commanding us.

No. But we didn't assassinate Saddam. Had he died in war, then that would be different. But even in entering a state of war, we need to move carefully. There's been centuries of writing on just war and even then, it needs to be a legitimate state who enters it. I do not believe that assassination should be a part of our policy. Yes, God uses man as His agent, but that doesn't include what I believe scripture forbids.

When I locate the exact text and setting, I will provide it. In the meantime, here is one that is even better.

After the Nazis had seized power, Fritz Hess, the press attache in Germany's London Embassy, called on Churchill to sound him out about Hitler. Churchill told him that with Hitler in power there was only one solution to the "German problem".

"If a dog makes a dash for my trousers, I shoot him down BEFORE he can bite."

"Don't imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! No, rather, a sword. I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's worst enemies will be found right in his own home! If you love your father and mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine."

I dont think Jesus is talking about killing heads of state and anyone we feel like. He is talking about people placing more value in their loved ones than in him and how brother will turn against brother when their faiths conflict...People just love to Quote that verse out of context all the time, from Satanists to criminalize christianity to those looking for excuses for violence.
