Miniskirts only for women with 'pretty legs': Budapest official

A district mayor in Budapest has proposed a dress code for City Hall employees under which only women with "pretty legs" can wear short skirts.

Gyorgy Mitnyan, the conservative mayor of the city's 12th district, is also seeking to ban skirts that are shorter than 2-3 centimetres (about one inch) above the knee.

Under his proposal, both male and female employes would have to wear blazers or suits and leather shoes all year long.

The mayor told the Internet news website index.hu that there is already a compulsory dress code issued in his district every season, and said the code is needed in City Hall because he sees a lot of shabby-looking employees there.

Budapest Mayor Gabor Demszky called the proposal simply "crass".

"I flatly reject the idea in the name of City Hall, which employs hundreds of women workers," he said in a statement to Hungarian state news agency MTI.

The proposal is nevertheless scheduled for debate next week.

If this proposal goes forward, some fortunate bureaucrat will get the happy job of enforcing it.

So you're saying that Hillary would qualify?

What about exposed, ample bellies above hip-hugger jeans?

We need the gubmint to address EVERY fashion outrage.

Of course, they could get someone that would be immune to the obvious pressure that could be brought to bear on this official. Say, Helen Thomas?

Not if it means giving up my Nehru suits.

Let me say, that as a woman, the current shorter skirt fashion disgusts even me unless the legs of the wearer are half way decent and the skirt is NOT too short. (No, no, I'm not thinking sexually, just aesthetically.)

Unfortunately, it is a rare occurrence to see pretty, slim legs. I see way too many middle-aged fat knees and ankles, not to mention overweight teen-aged girls squeezed into micro-minis. I think it's immodest and gross, but hey, it's a free country.

This political guy hasn't got a prayer--just really bad P.R.for a long time coming.

Works for me; I've seen way too many wimmens with legs that look like seabags packed full of padlocks, wearing mini-skirts and thong bathing suits. Makes me want to puke.

Only women with pretty legs may wear miniskirts, and they can't either.
