Suicidal boy stabbed policeman to grab gun
TOME, Miyagi -- A 14-year-old boy under arrest for stabbing a police officer said he had committed the crime because he wanted to get hold of a gun to kill himself, his lawyer said.
"I attempted suicide with a knife but I couldn't bear the pain," the lawyer quoted the boy as saying on Thursday. "I needed a gun to kill myself instantly."
The boy, whose name is being withheld under law, began thinking about committing suicide after entering junior high school because of family problems, the lawyer said.
He broke into a local police box to steal a gun in May this year but failed to get hold of one. He later tried to slash himself with a knife.
"I then began contemplating a painless death using a gun," he told the lawyer.
Police officers searched the junior schoolboy's home in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, after he was arrested for the stabbing in Tome on Aug. 23, and found 12 model guns.
"I bought the model guns only because they were trendy among my friends. I'm not really a gun maniac," he reportedly said.
The junior high school in Ishinomaki the boy attended began its autumn term on Friday.
"No matter what the situation, you are not allowed to injure people," the school's principal told the students. "I want the student to come back to school as soon as possible after he reflects upon what he did." (Mainichi)
...poor kid probably thought the world would be better off without him...
Still alive, so there's still hope. 14 though, DANG!
Entering junior high will not help correct the family's problems... might make them worse, though.
