How is the sewage going to work in the Super Dome if the city is flooded?

Supposedly around 1am, the city will flush the entire sewer system into the gulf, assuming that the hurricane will wisk that right out to sea. The system will then be able to handle what sewer needs the remaining population has until the crisis is over with.

Reality is that the sewers are going to back up onto the streets if things go bad and that will be the least of the toxic stew.

LA has a lot of refineries; according to this chart, 16% of America's refining capacity. Expect higher gas prices. (Hat tip, Hugh Hewitt.)

I've been through a few hurricanes in SE VA, in some cases going on the air on the local talk radio station in the middle of the night just to keep people going.

I did the same thing in Delaware - but only with one hurricane, mostly winter storms.

These threads remind me exactly of those times.

I am off to bed. I found some old beads in one of my computer cases. I wonder if my wife is up to earning them?

Many people died in previous Hurricanes when trapped in their attics and unable to swim out of the house.

This is not a myth.

Now look, two Admin Moderators and one Sidebar Moderator.

In "olden times" on FR, that would be considered a SWARM, wouldn't it? :-)

----Do you have a safe room just in case?----

I certainly do have a safe room. Unfortunately, it's in a motel in El Paso. :)

I've always wanted to visit New Orleans, but not during Mardi Gras. Besides the potential of many lives being loss, a lot of history will be destroyed. Prayers for everyone in the hurricane path.

I bet they did! I know that people exchanged recipes during blackouts, in Manhattan, when whole apartment building residents were told that they had to go to the basement. :-)

The mayor today talked of people needing to have access to the upper levels of their homes/whatever including the roof, and axes or something in case they needed to chop their way to the roof.......IF they decided to stay.

That is why the mayor was talking about having something to be able to hack your way onto the roof for those that stayed in the french quarter
