A bit paranoid on my part, but I understand food supply and inventory very well. If trucking breaks down, all bets are off.Yep, I'll be hunting too.

Rumors and panic are doing us no good. I've never heard of the "Disaster News Network." People really are panicking, aren't they? I can't believe how many people have turned into socialists overnight...

The way I remember it from the 70s is that all it takes to deplete the reserves is for 'everyone' to rush out and top off their tanks at once. Likewise if we 'all' didn't buy gas for 1 day we bankrupt the oil companies.
But then again both these lines may be myth.

Yeah I know they'll bitch, but honestly liberals are going to bitch regardless...it's what they do.
I'm sure the envirowacko's aren't happy about the waiver for the EPA clean air stuff (posted on FR earlier, but I didn't see it. Could have been pulled) We are getting to the point where even congress can see we need more refineries, so when are we gonna just do it? It's frustrating to say the least :)

I think somebody went way long on his gas futures day trading and is trying to recover his losses."
What do you mean? I just finished filling the 3ea 1,500 gallon tanks I bought this morning. I have the pumps and will be selling fuel tomorrow morning on the side of the road. I'll give you a heck of a deal.

Anything that cuts down on traffic is fine by me. :-)
I can tell that prices are not "too high" yet just by looking at all the cars on the highway. When it gets "too high" then people will drive less. Simple.
$4.00? $5.00? Annoying... sure. Not crippling. Not worth panic.

Oh, c'mon, let 'em have their fun. This is the most excitement the scare mongers have had in weeks.

I wouldn't call it gouging, diesel's big claim to fame is being cheaper than gas, how much cheaper though nobody says. If gas is selling at X then diesel for X- 10 cents sounds fair to me. It's a pretty rare thing for me to accuse somebody of gouging, last time I remember doing that was when some guys were selling gas for $5 on 9-11 that was definitely gouging (no serious threat to the supply line yet more than doubling the price), short of that it's just taking advantage of market conditions. And while I'm sure this is going to put a slight crimp in the diesel supply chain it probably won't be nearly as bad as gas.

Why are folk rushing to the gas pumps when they should just chill and wait for things to settle. Well, because I was out and not sure I had enough to make it home on. :-)

Good point:
Folks, if we have no trucks, and people panic over food supply, all bets are off for a civil end to this mess. With our "Just in time" inventory system of food, we may have about one to 2 weeks of supply -- that is a run on grocery stores do not occur.

"I didn't expect the ripples from Katrina this far this fast."
Never underestimate the speed of greed of the oil cartels and the speculators.
By creating "shortages" they can short-circuit attacks for "gouging".

Where abouts in Nova? I figured I can go as high as 10 bucks a gallon before it's cheaper to take the metro into. Of course that assumes there is gas to buy.
