President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

"And still freepers complaining because the president hasn't sent in the military to quell the civil unrest.

Justice Department saying right now they are except from doing such a thing -- unless the Governor so mandates. And I can't tell yet if she has done so yet."

It's Thurs already. All those bad things you listed are still happening. The criminals are interfering with FEMA's lawful rescue efforts. Regardless od FEMA related law, 18USC 24X related law is being violated by the murderous criminals. The Justice dept is full of it. Gonzales is either an empty airhead, or he's flat out lying.

From where I sit, it looks like the inaction is deliberate.

WWL says people are dying in the parking lot outside the superdome, from heat and dehydration.

2000 people made it to Houston. I pray the infants and young were heavily among those rescued.

I felt that way right on 9-11.

And for weeks after that.

I was so confident we'd seen the light as a people and things would change.

And here we are, what, four years minus one week, out from 9-11. And they never did close the borders, or get islamo terrorists or gangs on our soil under complete control. SO ....I am a bit skeptical things will change after NO.

When the "Big One" hits LA, even in poor neighborhoods there will be church leaders, business leaders, home owners, etc. I don't think they'll let things get too out of control.

Naive. The Rodney King riots demonstrated precisely the opposite, and there wasn't even an Earthquake to blame for that.

I'm talking about the behavior of the people, not the effects. There's no difference in motivation or behavior at all. I saw a lot of people that night.

Is the Marriot next to SD?

It's about 6 or 7 blocks away.

Let LE and NG use effin frag grenades. "Surround me? I don't think so!"

I'm not kidding. Go medieval, NOW. The thugs already are.

My stomach is starting to really hurt. I can't imagine what the innocents are enduring, even if I read about it all day.

I have questioned God no little bit about why not a more precise miraculous message to evil doers.

He seems to have reminded me that throughout history He has chosen to do it this way.

I'm reminded that people TEND as a group--to get the kind of government they deserve.

In any case, I'm not really in a position to tell God He is doing it wrong. Help yourself.

I also believe that those with truly Good Hearts toward God, so called 'innocents'--that all such have extra grace in their moments of suffering and at their moment of death.

God DOES ALL THINGS WELL.

Even disasters and suffering.

He *IS* HOLY. The world is set to learn much more about the long neglected awe and reverential fear of God.

But no matter what the next catastrophe is, we will be much better prepared. No way will most cities let what is happening in New Orleans happen to them.

What is happening in NOLA is BECAUSE IT WAS ALLOWED to happen during the Watts riots--Riots following MLK assasination and the Rodney KIng fiasco

They set the precedent for what is going on

I remember the riots in the major cities after MLK was assasinated.
Philadelphia had NO RIOTS because Frank Rizzo was given a free hand by the Mayor and he told them POINT BLANK NO ONE IS BURNING OR LOOTING THIS CITY PERIOD

Course the liberals HATED Rizzo

"I suppose this kind of loss of law and order could happen anywhere. But I'm beginning to think that the south is really different from other parts of the country."

I live at ground zero for Charley, Frances and Jeanne in central Florida. We are southern and we didn't have this kind of lawlessness or looting. Please refrain from stereotyping. Thanks
