Yes, they are supposed to protect us...not allow people to die in a building after they are supposedly rescued. The libs have a point.

These 'people' in the dome are now dying of dehydration...

I am sorry to say the libs may be right. We don't have enough soldiers to protect the homefront.

No, they aren't right. They have spent the last 30 years trying to gut our military. If we don't have enough soldiers, it rests squarely on their shoulders. It's a little like the man who kill his parents pleading for mercy because he's an orphan.

I bet I grew up in Charleston, SC, lived through Hugo, evacuated of course, and now reside in Panama.

Sorry to disappoint.

There are plenty if the country mobilizes. Could be necessary if things don't simmer down soon. It's not business as usual, that is for sure. I would guess things are going to stabilize in the near future since the NG and the local peace officers are already in place and making their presence effective.

Well my son is a former policeman and a member of the Army. He has one but I guess I need one too now, after all this. These freaks are just like the butchers in Baghdad. My heart goes out to normal people there.

And notice that the "able bodied" looters are helping anyone. Nah, no time. Gotta go get the plasma TV and some new sneakers.

The joke was about the looters, not the people in the Dome, thier situation is not funny. There's no excuse for that Governor allowing this to happen. Someone on another thread said there were no LA provisions for Martial Law...I call BS...call the Leg into an emergency session and just do it.

It's time to impeach the governor and for Bush to strip LA officials of all power and take charge!

Amen, I detest that cow.

How many times did you evacuate before Hugo? In retrospect evacuation would have been the logical move. I just don't think there was enough time to pull it off. Also, for the most part the city survived the hurricane and the storm surge; it was the faulty levee system that did them in. Who would have thought that anyone would be stupid enough to install a critical pumping system that would rely exclusively on commercial power and be subject to serious storm damage? If they had known that ahead of time they wouldn't have evacuated, they would have just moved out for good.

I am sorry but it does not take rocket science to learn from others mistakes. Are you telling me this many people were unaware of the potential destruction? Do they live with their heads in the sand? My point is this, they were ordered to leave. The majority of those behind, CHOSE not to leave and because of that people are dying.

Now, it is George Bush's fault that all those people.e stayed behind? Get real, they had 36 hours to get out and chose not to. They could have walked to higher ground in that time. Do you seriously think they were not ABLE to find 1 friend with a car to leave the city? For that matter, they could have stolen an abandoned vehicle after everyone left and still made it out of the city.

People are dead because of the stupid selfish people looking for a handout. Many likely stayed behind so that they could loot and pillage the others. I am having a hard time developing much sympathy for the able bodied that chose not to leave.

Good question. I'm not sure what assets the 4th Mardiv have in place. I do know that 4th Amphibious Assault Battalion is in Iraq with 3/25.

A few years ago on a city bus I heard some lady talking about a social worker, she referred to the person as 'our socialist'.

LOL

He can't legally do that. The LA governor is the executive of the sovereign state of Louisiana. Blanco can call for help, but she's still in charge.

Would this be a fair contraction of your words or does it remove the context?

Bush is far too focused on bringing the rule of Islam to Iraq and has been caught completely flat-footed with this disaster.

Isn't responding to a disaster such as this supposed to be the primary function of a government?

Perhaps it is, I don't know rightfully, but they are responding.
