28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

yes, they will subpoena the mayor and governor before Congress...that would be good

That will be a circus, but necessary.

Actually, I agree with you. I believe that substantively, Bush did a lot in advance. His brother is the country's best governor, so he probably expected the same level of competence in LA, which did not occur.

He also called a state of emergency before the storm hit and urged the local idiots to evacuate.

Where he is slow? PR again. He's allowed his enemies in the press to team with the left to define this is the worst possible way for him - again.

Every governor with a large urban area in their state better have their homeland security guy front and center asking them "are we ready for this?"

My husband is part of our EOC (emergency operations center)...he cannot leave during a hurricane.

Lots of jobs, police, firemen, power workers, utility workers, city managers, nurses, doctors, nursing home personnel, etc. all have to be at their jobs during a hurricane.

Just a thought. Perhaps the reason the MSM, Black Caucus, Jessie Jackson are all pointing fingers at President Bush in this is to draw attention from their part in creating this whole problem in the first place.

No, not the Hurricane. The extreme poverty the world is seeing that has been created by the Democratic Party because, if they don't keep the folks down and out they might figure out what frauds they have running their party...

They know we are all talking about how poor these people are and we are talking about the gangsta's doing the shootings... the only way to deflect that attention is to throw mud back in the direction of the President saying he is incompetent. They are the true incompetents.

>>And he says if he had his way, New Orleans would be burned down.<<

Well after a few hours of watching the television, it looks as if he may get his wish.

The ONLY man worth his salt in DC is President Bush.

Other than maybe Tom Delay and a couple others, ITA.

Guess who isn't making this political though he could? Yep, Bush. He could slam Blanco and the mayor, hasn't done it.

These people are sick.

Amen!

As a radio amateur, I have had some experience with disaster relief (in a very small way). Our club does Field Day every year, the idea being to set up a portable emergency radio station in the middle of nowhere, with generators and everything necessary . . . just for practice.

I can tell you that even with a SMALL operation, it takes time to get things set up and on the road. You don't get your personnel assembled, supplies gathered, trucks gassed up, and on the road with a snap of the fingers.

And that's without the time constraints, the time pressure, and all the problems they had here with all the usual forward staging areas being blown away or under water, or obstructed by washed-out bridges and thousands of fallen trees across the roadways . . .

Frankly, I am amazed at how quickly this is all coming together.

Even more frankly, I am convinced that the major media KNOW that, they just can't resist the temptation to attack Bush yet again . . .

Usually it is 72 hours before substantial help begins to arrive after a major disaster.

You are correct. Please inform CNN, MSNBC and your local MSM affiliates. We need to raise Hell.
