If you think about it, this is like the small nuke going off in a city, maybe worse. It shows you that we need a long way to go as far as disaster planning is concerned.

The truth is the best excuse, we can't have our rescue helos shot down by the thugs we are trying to save.

We can't deliver food and water by air drop in the amounts necessary to feed all those at the convention center and the area is surrounded by high rises and the river.

If they move to an open area then we have a chance to save more people via air drops

Tell them to walk west on I-10.

>>>because it breeds an addiction to government which leads crowds of mostly healthy people to sit around and wait for the government, their savior and God, to come to the rescue.>>>

The thing is, we pay taxes for this reason! Otherwise, it would be anarchy and the situation in NO would be all over the place. So you can't take a no government mentality either. Do I manufacture my own electricity? No, I pay a company to do that for me. Does that make me a nanny dependant? No, it makes SENSE. Same for paying the government taxes to be there in a disaster. THAT'S WHAT WE PAY THEM FOR. I am not expecting the government to keep me or anyone else up for a lifetime. I do expect them to help me when I need them. Like insurance. I pay for a policy to be there when I need them.

Along with being a good tactician, Patton was a foul mouthed jerk. He got deservedly busted in rank for his nasty behavior, too.

What good does that do right now blaming those people now? Of course it serves as a lesson for the rest of us, a BIG lesson, but they need to be helped and rescued. The looters should be shot and left for the buzzards.

You think the government is supposed to protect you from natural disasters??

I think the government actually did a pretty good job with its satellite forecasting and loud, clear warnings that a hurricane was coming and so people should evacuate. Did you see the thousands upon thousands of people who DID evacuate and were therefore saved by these government warnings?

No? You forgot about that?

There is PLENTY of blame everywhere

I agree totally. The least common denominator is the rule - in government and the streets.

She's a politician , what do you expect. I'm quickly loosing respect for most of the politicians in this country , on both sides of the aile. They are professional actors ,greedy , useless frauds out for themselves. Where are the statesmen ?

So compassion is not needed or communities that will help?

At this point all that's needed is money. Wait. I take that back. They've been asking for volunteers. The number was 1-800-SAL-ARMY. But they don't want people coming down there on their own. There's no food and nowhere to sleep.

Well thats good, I'm sure the President would love to hear your opinion.

I'm sure he would. Just what they need is more useless mouths in the way.

Now that nothing is needed, why do the news keep reporting that help is needed?

You said nothing about help. You wanted individuals to just drive down there, THAT won't help.

>>>Is is not sort of a contract whereby we send them a lot of our cash and they at least have some contingency planning for situations like this?>>>

My point entirely. It is like insurance. You pay for a promise and the promise is that when you are in need, they will be there.

Did anyone see Tucker Carlson? He looked like he was going riding and play polo with Prince Charles. He has Rev.Sharpton on. Everything is the federal governments fault.

If we have another disaster in say Houston, or L.A. before this is cleaned up all systems will be overwhelmed.

There are basically three groups of people currently in NO right now, not counting tourists and those trying to rescue or establish law and order.

1. The justifiably helpless - very old, sick, mentally incapable.

2. Those who have been rendered helpless because they weren't taking care of themselves even before the hurricane. Those on welfare, jobless, skill-less, those made helpless by liberal policies. Someone who doesn't know how to take care of him/herself when there is no disaster is not going to learn overnight how to be self-reliant. This group includes single mothers who were not taught to wait until marriage to (pardon the crudity) open their legs and get pregnant. But any mothers with children and no husband or father around certainly need help and should have been served better.

3. Subhuman scum who live by preying on others. They stayed behind because they saw a golden opportunity to loot, steal, rape and commit crime.

Group 1 has been cruelly treated by the incompetent state and city government. Group 2 has been ill-served by liberal policies and deserve sympathy and help - and the future help should include helping them become self-reliant. Group 3 should be exterminated.

Keep in mind that the vilely incompetent, self-serving and criminally stupid governor and mayor did not - repeat - DID NOT order mandatory evacuation until it was too late for everyone to leave the city. If mandatory (real mandatory) evacuation had been ordered two days before, what we see unfolding before our eyes would not be happening.

The governor and mayor are hugely responsible for the horrors taking place this very minute.

Many either loved or hated the man. However, you cannot deny the man's accomplishments, from overcoming dylexia, killing Pancho Villa's bodyguard and strapping him to the roof of his car, and the well documented battle victories he had.

Foul mouthed he may have been, but he was a true leader and did not care about offending anyone so long as the job got done.

Please tell me how your opinion would be different were this a nuke instead of a natural disaster?

I understand your point of view, but please see my post #327 to chris1.

Government did a pretty good job warning the area about the imminent disaster. And now government is attempting to cope with this unprecedented natural disaster. It turns out that government is not God after all. And God help us if we ever want government to be God.

It doesn't seem as though you have spent much time reading the threads. I have been reading these threads for hours and hours every day. There were boats rescuing people - many, many volunteers.

But then the subhuman scum started hijacking the boats to float their stolen goods around and the volunteers were told to stop.
