The media has refused to publish any images* of dead bodies from the 9/11 attacks. They claim that they did this out "respect" for the families. Why does the media so disrepect the people of New Orleans?

Political Correctness sucks.

(* except for one photo I saw in the French edition of Photo of someone in a body bag)

Liberalism is fueled by emotion. When you see pictures of children dying, people don't want to hear about what President Bush was or was not authorized to do at the time.

Yea seeing a baby dying in its mothers arms bothers those emotional liberals.. good thing conservatives aren't bother by such nonsense huh?

If this does not make you worried about how YOUR government would be able to react to a nuclear terrorist attack near your home it should, or next time it might be one of your babies that the liberals are worried about.

Rule #1: People die in disasters.
Rule #2: You cannot change Rule #1.

President Bush is not omnipotent. Hindsight is 20/20, he is doing to best he can, and I am damn sure he is doing a better job than Gore or Kerry would have.

Why does the media so disrepect the people of New Orleans?

Maybe because these are living people dying in front of them. Maybe because they were where the government was not and they were showing the need . Maybe it was because they knew that Americas people would reach out to help

It is sad when the most important thing on one's agenda is to protect the president's legacy and to hell with the people .

If he did the right thing, time and not his public relations team here will vindicate him

The Communists pretended to care for the poor. The Bolsheviks motto was "Peace, Land, Bread." To a hungry nation losing millions in a war, it was a very effective slogan.

Once they gained power, they shoved to poor into collective farms, and millions starved.

It's the oldest political trick in the world, pretend to care for the poor to gain power, and then jettison them when you get it. The Dems are pros at it. Don't fall for it.

After living in South Florida myself for 20 years, having family living in South Florida for 45 years and living Charleston, South Carolina for 2 years, I have had much personal experiences with hurricanes.

Every evacuation order I have ever heard of has ALWAYS come from the Governor.

A Governor, after all, is the executive most familiar with the local area and its peculiarities.

This is the first time I have ever heard of a Governor being so paralyzed that she needs somebody in Washington, D.C. to tell her what to do in her own back yard.

Katrina was predicted as a Category 5 and hit as a Category 4.

I have done some research and I have found that experts had long predicted catastrophic flooding in the, as they call it, "New Orleans flood bowl" after anything from a slow-moving Category 3 hurricane or greater.

I did not know all that two weeks ago but I know that now.

I presume the Democrat Governor of Louisiana knew as much about her own back-yard two weeks ago as I know now.

So why is this idiot waiting for anybody from Washington, DC to tell her do what obviously needed to be done?

In the end, 80% of the New Orleans population was saved because of Bush's evacuation order and the remaining 20% low-income population without cars were left stranded in the "New Orleans flood bowl" because the Democrat Governor and Democrat Mayor had made no plans for such people.

While the Mayor of New Orleans cowered in Baton Rouge, and the low income population of New Orleans was left to drown like rats, hundreds of New Orleans city-owned buses remained parked in neat rows.

You know nothing about what I have personally done for victims, who are by the way, black. I have more concern than you'll ever know.

But I will not see political opportunists trash my President, before the waters have even receded. The ramifications for this country for many years to come is at stake.

Pathetic !

If the best defense you have for the governmental ineptness is a set of false choices then you have no argument.

This is not about communism , unless you believe those fellow citizens should have been left to their own devises for more than 4 days (A true capitalist view I presume)

Just think on this, The world now know that we have no plan for major disasters in our cities even with days of notice. I am SURE the Islamic terrorists have noticed too .

I'm almost certain that this is the RTA bus barns and lot on Magazine street near Audobon Park.

All of these buses are in a bone dry lot because this area is near the river and that levee and is built on higher ground.

And I bet they are still there.

I do not give a damn about the president right now. This is about people that are hurt and dying .

The fact he is your major concern speaks to where your heart is

Do you trolls ever use logic? You claim to, then spout some asinine and incorrect "analogy".

Taking your example, the correct analogy is: A guy gets hit by a brick. There is an EMT station around the corner, employed to respond in emergencies such as this. They refuse so an ambulance has to be sent from the next city over. The guy dies because of the time and distance required for the other city's ambulance to arrive. The poor guy could have lived had the local ambulance responded.

it appears the BIG talkin' point is, "folks didn't have the $$$$ to leave"

I had precisely this discussion with a co-worker. When I mentioned the mandatory order to evacuate, she said they had no cars. When I mentioned that they could take a bus she said they didn't have $2 for a bus. When I mentioned that friends or relatives could put them up and get them, she said they had no friends or relatives.

When I said that was unrealistic, she said I had no idea of what life was like in America. (BTW, she is an immigrant!)

I was thinking if I said they were told to bring food and water, she would have said they were to poor to have extra food. If I said water is free, she would have said they had no indoor plumbing!

All in all, trying to acquaint these people with the truth is only for the truly persistent!

If you are referring to the ineptness of the Louisiana government and local officials who had years to implement plans, than I agree whole-heartedly. Bush may bear some responsibility as the man at the top, but he is a small part of the bigger problem.

It is the media's selective screening of which bodies to show and which families wishes to respect.

The 9.11 victims were never shown.

The dead soldiers from Iraq WERE shown. The dead soldier dragged through the streets of Somalia WAS shown.

The dead from the tsunami were shown.

The dead in New Orleans are being shown.

Only in the last instance does your point of "getting attention raised" ring true. Or do you agree with the left that the public needs to see the dead soldiers so that we will pull out of Iraq?

These are the facts. It isn't about saving the President's hide. It is about the rotten double standard which shields the images of horror from 9.11.

And for the record, the long standing corruption in Louisiana government has more weight to bear in this problem than the Federal government (whether it was the Bush or the Clinton administration's budget request cut).

Save the city? Those levees weren't meant for a Category 4 storm. The part of the levee that broke was an area that had been fixed. When a hurricane of that magnitude is coming, it's too late to start repairing anything. It's time to run for cover. Evacuate. Load up the buses and get the hell out.
