The hybrid buzz is moronic. It's so trendy to buy a hybrid car nowadays that the manufacturers are able to charge thousands of dollars over the sticker price -- and to get a hybrid with any decent amount of power, you're already paying thousands above the price for the regular model.
It ain't gonna be worth it to buy a hybrid for quite some time. It certainly won't save anyone any money right now unless you're willing to drive a ~100hp compact.
How much does it cost?
The Escape hybrid starts at $27k, goes up to $29k.
And dealerships usually won't part with them for less than sticker. They're exempt from the current employee pricing program.
I hate to say it but there are other cars I'd rather spend 27K on than this.
I believe that one of the articles that I read on this actually listed how much Florida had paid for this particular vehicle, but I don't seem able to find it again.
The current fashionable demand for them will enable economy of scale and competition that will reduce the premium. But, this may take a few years, as you say.
The plug-in hybrid is another issue entirely. Depending on one's driving habits, one could easily get 300 mpg.
I like this SUV.
I'd rather have this Lexus RX 400h, "h" for hybrid.
Or this Lexus GS 450h .
