My brother in TX suggests we give the military FEMA's budget (they're already doing FEMA's work), and ship the FEMA brass to Iraq/Afghanistan...not that they'll do any good over there, but to keep them from doing harm here.

The head Volunteer Firefighter in my state told all companies that wanted to go down there to stay home. He must have been tipped off.

If they want FEMA to do what they are saying it should, it will have to grow much bigger and be given its own first responder force.
I am not sure that is what we need, perhaps just competent local governments and some sort of "covering plan" such that Houston goes to New Orleans or visa versa.

I just can't help but think sending these guys to do the door-to-door checking for survivors/casualties would make so much more sense. Anyone know how big FEMA is?

I could send them plenty of fire ants and cottonmouths to let loose on the speakers if they wish.

Yeah, and Hillary is doing some serious backpeddling today because SHE wanted FEMA under Homeland Security.

But as specific orders began arriving to the firefighters in Atlanta, a team of 50 Monday morning quickly was ushered onto a flight headed for Louisiana. The crew's first assignment: to stand beside President Bush as he tours devastated areas.

Classy.

Insanity. Be careful: some of the media think Joe M. Allbaugh is still director and attacking his as he spent some years involved with Arabian horses and apparently has a horse lobbying firm with his wife.

Michael D. Brown is current director. and was a internal promotion.

"If they want FEMA to do what they are saying it should, it will have to grow much bigger and be given its own first responder force."

You miss the point - using firefighters to pass out leaflets and stopping the Red Cross from entering NO and Chertoff saying he did not know there was a problem till Thurs means Bush needs to clean house.

PS(What will the Cross do with all the money they collected?)
