More Surprises from Dershowitz: Praises Roberts, Suggests W Nominate Hatch to Supreme Court
Court TV | governsleast governsbest

More surprises from Alan Dershowitz.

As I posted yesterday, in comments on Court TV, Dershowitz made clear he believes Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and that the right of privacy does not extend to abortion.

Today, Dershowitz offered up these two comments:

1. He would like W to nominate GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah to the Supreme Court, calling Hatch "a true conservative and not a statist."

2. He was been very impressed by Roberts' testimony and thinks that he is also a true conservative, which he meant as a compliment.

Interesting, no?

Please not another milktoast feeble republican. But after all, now Bush will nominate a one-legged deaf muslim woman to the court.

I can't really say where Dersh stands, other than he obviously takes pride in marching to his own drummer.

I think Bush should have gotten back at the libs by nominating Mark Levin for Chief Justice.

The hearings would be MUST SEE TV at its best. Kennedy would yell so much he may have a heart attack and there would be one less lib to deal with.

Is Alan bi-polar?

No, he's just an a old-time Liberal, not a stooge of the radical leftist NARAL or the looting Trial Lawyer's lobby. It's not that I ever agreed much with them on social policy, but they were not "evel" or anti-American. There's not many real liberals left anymore like Pat Monoyhan or Scoop Jackson or Hubert Humphrey. Their party was stolen lock-stock and barrel by the maggot infested trust-fund 60s hippies.

"he believes Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and that the right of privacy does not extend to abortion."

I think even a tenured professor at Harvard can be fired for this kind of heresy. All kidding aside, I really don't see this kind of remark being tolerated at Harvard. Is he still on the faculty?

Dershowitz made clear he believes Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and that the right of privacy does not extend to abortion.

If it is a privacy issue then why does the public have to pay for it? I think that was his point. If we focus only on privacy then the next logical question is why are public tax dollars used here and around the world on a private matter.

The dem's don't want to have that discussion.

Dershowitz is to the legal profession what Dick morris is to politics. Alan's probably hurting from the bad PR he received for calling Rhenquist a 'republican thug' the same day he died.

If Dersch if FOR Roberts....it makes me kind of leery about him...

And, Hatch...like another poster commented, is TO easily swayed by his "friends" the dems....

IF any Senator were to be nominated, I would go with Jeff Sessions...HE isn't a chameleon, like so many of the politicians are.

Dershowitz is an interesting character. Though a pro-choice, pro-gun control liberal, he nonetheless has the intellectual honesty to admit that Roe v Wade is garbage, and that the Second Amendment protects an individual right, not some worthless collective one.

On the other hand, he will not hesitate to recklessly sling the racist charge against someone he dislikes.

Hatch would be an excellent choice (no, I'm not kidding..:)

I've been familiar with Hatch since he carpetbagged into Utah 25+ years ago. He has no conservative intellectual foundation (probably not much of any intellectual foundation,) nor thought process. He would go astray within weeks of confirmation. But he would be glad to sell you his CDs, and party-hearty with Teddy.

Though it is a fantasy, the chance to have someone like Levin aggressively point out to the world what a complete POS Kennedy is would be priceless.

It never fails to anger me just a little bit that such a disgrace like Kennedy is still around, passing judgment on others with his pompous, self-righteous, insane rants. What he did to Bork with his lies and demagoguery is all one needs to know about this dangerous clown, though sadly it only scratches the surface of his offenses against decency.

Well, Mark's "Get off the phone you big dope" would be turned into "Get off the mike you big drunk" and you would have Ann calling Kennedy a murderer. That would be some classic viewing.

My guess would be that President Bush wants to nominate someone younger than Orrin Hatch.

That said, it sure would be interesting if he was nominated. You would surely see some of his democrat colleagues vote for him out of respect. OTOH I will bet that some still have not forgiven him for his aggressive defense of Clarence Thomas. So it would bring back all those bad memories.
