CRAWFORD The Camp Casey Memorial on Prairie Chapel Road was removed by thieves earlier today. Not a single item is left at the memorial site.
Crew members working for McLennan County said they witnessed items being removed by an unidentified individual and contacted their office to inform commissioners.
Upon arrival at Camp Casey, honor guard members who had been at the Crawford Peace House immediately called McLennan County Sheriffs Deputy R. Polansky to report the theft.
Among the items stolen were numerous crosses, Casey Sheehans boots, tents, and other items.
The 26-day vigil of Cindy Sheehan outside the Bush ranch ended with a cross-country tour to spread the anti-war message. Camp Casey became a semipermanent memorial, to remain until the Veterans For Peace organization could establish a solemn removal ceremony.
Items that remained at the Camp Casey Memorial following Sheehans departure were the three original tents under a pavilion, crosses of the war dead, signs, and personal items of the individuals involved. Members of the guard filed a report with the McLennan County Sheriff Office.
The three honor guard volunteers diligently listed, item by item, the belongings that were stolen from the site. Tents, pillows, signs, books, a box of literature, sleeping bags, an air mattress, flowers, plants, tarps, memorial crosses even Casey Sheehans boots that stood in front of the small wooden cross bearing his name. Virtually every item that was at Camp Casey is gone.
Veterans For Peace member and honor guard volunteer Paul R. McDaniel said, My role here was as caretaker. Now its gone. Honor guard volunteer Linda Foley cried as she said, Caseys boots are gone! His boots are gone. You tell me that were not being respectful. Those crosses are probably in a trash can somewhere right now! His boots are gone. What kind of people would do that. Honor guard member Sarah Oliver said, His boots were one of the last things that Cindy had of Casey. I cant believe that anyone would take something like that.
McLennan County Commissioners road workers were in the area to post the No Parking signs that had been approved by the Commissioners Court. Those signs were on a 26-mile stretch of several roads. According to a representative of the County Commissioners office, the act of removing items from the ditch had nothing to do with the Commissioners and that this was done by a private individual.
Organizers of Camp Casey Memorial had been in contact with neighbors of the site and had informed them that the memorial was temporary and would be removed when a removal ceremony could be organized.
McDaniels said, We have tried to be as accommodating, peaceful, and graceful as we can. We wanted them to be aware of what was going on. We also took very good care of the area with the mowing and cleaning. We wanted to erect a permanent site at the Peace House, as soon as its garden was worked on. We were going to call it the Casey Sheehan Memorial Garden.
Following the tedious report given to the officer, honor guard members began to disassemble the poles of the pavilions tent that stood over the tent of Cindy Sheehanthe single item left at the site. One could walk through the area where the tents and crosses stood and see nothing. There was no evidence that Camp Casey had even existed.
Loading the tent poles in the back of a pickup, the three guardsmen said that they would return to the Crawford Peace House, finish a few chores there, and pack up to go home. Someone will be there part-time to take care of the information flow, said McDaniels.
Veterans For Peace members will continue their support of Cindy Sheehan and her efforts against the war in Iraq. There are actions planned on Sept. 24, the day that Sheehan will arrive in Washington for a protest there. Other demonstrations are planned by the group in Waco.
The three members of the Camp Casey Honor Guard stood in a circle at the site of Casey Sheehans cross, held hands, and wept as McDaniels offered a prayer of peace, got into their vehicles, and left Camp Casey.
Ha! Aint that a fact!
"These boots are made for walkin, and that's just what they did"
This whole "someone stole our temporary memorial" story is a giant crock of crap, too!
From the Aug. 31, 2005 AP report Anti-war mom ends vigil near presidents ranch :
"This is where Im going to spend every August from now on, Sheehan said as she smiled and waved through a bus window, after hugging dozens of fellow protesters.
"While dozens of protesters packed tents and anti-war banners Wednesday, a few tents remained so at least two Veterans for Peace members can keep camping there 24 hours a day until the war ends", said Carl Rising-Moore of Indianapolis."
I swear, truth is a concept these pathetic misfits are unable or unwilling to grasp!
Clymers act like it's some type of holy shrine. Gimmie a break.
Doing a bang up job there genius. LOL
Quinn's first law, liberalism always generates the exact opposite of it's stated intent.
You beat me to it.
This lady is trash.
Look at Americas communists. They always claim to stand for human rights and protecting the enviroment, yet the history of communism shows that it produces the exact opposite again and again and again.
Speaking of Babies, Check out this story about The Freedom Fighters that Cindy and her Left Wing Friends (A.Sharpton, J.Jackson,T.Kennedy,H.Clinton) Support and Love.
Iraq Extremists 'Booby-trap Dead Child'
News Edition: 09/15/2005
A US Army commander claims that extremist fighters in northern Iraq committed atrocities against civilians, including beheadings, torture and the booby-trapping of a murdered child's body.
The accusations by Colonel HR McMaster, commander of the 3rd Armoured Cavalry Regiment, included some of the most graphic and specific charges by an American military officer during the ongoing battle for control of Tal Afar, a city about 80 kilometres from the Syrian border that has been an insurgent stronghold.
"The enemy here did just the most horrible things you can imagine - in one case murdering a child, placing a booby trap within the child's body and waiting for the parent to come recover the body of their child and exploding it to kill the parents; beheadings and so forth," McMaster said in an interview from Tal Afar with reporters at the Pentagon.
McMaster said Tal Afar is not yet under the control of the 5,000 Iraqi government forces and 3,500 to 3,800 US troops that have been fighting together there for the past two weeks. He predicted eventual victory but said it was impossible to know how long it would take before the Iraqis can control Tal Afar by themselves.
"Is Tal Afar secure? No, it's not secure," he said. "Is the enemy on the run in Tal Afar? Yes, the enemy's on the run. And we're going to conduct some follow-on operations in the next week or so to relentlessly pursue the enemy across the city."
McMaster repeatedly condemned the tactics of the insurgents, whom he called terrorists and extremists.
"Not only were they targeting civilians, brutally murdering them, torturing them, but they were also kidnapping the youth of the city and brainwashing them and trying to turn them into hate-filled murderers," he said.
His comments came two days after the al-Qaida leader in Iraq, Abu-Musab al-Zarqawi, purportedly accused American forces of using poison gas in the Tal Afar fighting, a charge that US officials have denied. The accusation was made in an audiotape posted on the internet on Sunday and attributed to al-Zarqawi.
McMaster alluded to that accusation and said he believed the insurgents had planned to detonate chemicals in a building in a residential area and then claim that US forces had employed poison gas against civilians.
"In one of these buildings the enemy had big barrels of chemicals that had explosives implanted in the chemicals, wires running around them. The whole house was rigged for demolition," he said.
When US troops went into the house, "immediately their eyes began burning, their throats began burning. So they withdrew out of the house immediately and then we conducted reconnaissance with some chemical protective gear, with a remote reconnaissance capability, into the house. And we could tell that the thing was rigged with chemicals."
McMaster also said US troops found manuals that described how to make "these kind of chemical dirty bombs and so forth."
It's seems that 24 hours doesn't mean the same to the left as it does to the rest of the world.
My guess is the "guards" might have taken the stuff away themselves because they were tired of watching a bunch of useless crap. Now there's nothing left to watch.
Roadside 'memorials' give me the creeps. It seems kinda pagan to be posting memorials on the exact spot where somebody died in a car accident. Many are not maintained and get trashed by the weather. Just an eyesore after a while. My 2 cents.
They go away to do some Bongloads....duh
"Caseys boots are gone! His boots are gone."
Ummm. . . where did she get his boots? Weren't they left in Iraq? If he had army boots from a previous tour of duty, wouldn't they have been turned in someplace before he was sent overseas?
Don't know the answers, but have to wonder just exactly where these boots came from.
You can't make this stuff up.
Just like the law says, the exact opposite of their stated intent.
Thanks for the pic. She looks like Mr. Ed in his horse trailer.
Of course. In Liberal Land one is expected to leave deeply sentimental objects in ditches whilst one goes on a hippy-dippy crusade. It just makes sense.
Whoever got the boots probably deserves them more than Cindy. So far all she has done is shame them.
"mom has been very neglectful". If she was any decent mother she never would have left the boots there. It was never about her son. They are probably lying about the boots for publicity.
It's called "picking up litter" and it happens in lots of places.
""Does Texas have an "Adopt a Highway" program?"
Yes, and we have our world famous "Don't mess with Texas" anti-litter campaign.
Funny about the Casey Memorial. There are two types of land in Texas. State land and Private land. Either one would have to be officially dedicated as a memorial to be permanent.
For example i can have a small burial plot on my land, but it would have to remain a burial memorial, and monument in perpetuity.
I doubt the state gave a slice of the bar ditch to the Shehani's. (it would be a senate thing). I also doubt that a private land owner, gave up a chunk. (it's a state surveyor's and title office thing.)
It's a last gasping breath of bs.
My first thought too.
some good citizen , just cleaning up the trash.
Most likely the spirit of Casey and his fellow, fallen comrades didn't appreciate having their sacrifices and memories so grossly misused.
Either an old pair of boots he left behind or personal effects shipped home. I can almost guarantee you those weren't his working pair of boots.
Hasn't Sheehan herself been caught using phony Casey memorabilia before? Maybe the boots were "fake but accurate"?
Considering how vile the purpose of the "protestors," and how lame the effect, it is truly enjoyable to read this report. You are right. These people were devoid of honor, and demonstrably cynical as they scurried back to their house every night instead of keeping the vigil they pretended to care about. My guess is we will never hear about this again, because the truth is, even the skanks in the article don't really give a dam, now that the media has gone away.
Looks like they didn't have a handle on the 'guard' part either.
But even much much worse than that, his mother has now dishonored his memory and the values he proudly stood and died for PLUS his mother is lying to the American People.
Maybe they got stoned and were too busy looking at their hands to notice...
Or perhaps Michael Moore just got hungry. Either scenario is totally possible.
Who cares. Camp Bat Boy is over, gone and not even very good "odd" history.
Real Honor Guards would have been on site, not at the CPH in the A/C...
My dog steals shoes all the time. But Karl Rove makes him do it.
Haha! Ping! :)
I SWEAR I was nowhere near the place!
honor guard ?!?! my a88
What theft? They removed abandoned property that constituted an eyesore.
I think I'm going to cry.
The Million Mom March in 2000 left a ton of materials on the National Mall for about two weeks if I remember correctly.
Who would leave a valuable unattended in the mioddle of nowhere?
Obviously it wasn't THAT valuable or the Cindynistas would have taken them with them at night.
Better they be in the trash than in her possession.
nothing - zip
This is not theft - it's garbage removal!
It's so obvious that after President Bush caused Hurricaine Katrina to flood the poor minorities of New Orleans he has devised a way to steal all roadside memorials.
