Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VI
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 9:39:06 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

LOL...that's what I thought I smelled! He said something about an "angry lady out there" or something like that.

Wonder how many "Ratherisms" he was able to squeeze in before they let him go.

Thanks, NN, for "cowboying" these threads! They are very much appreciated.

I was almost expecting him to ask that idiot reporter if he was stuck on stupid. I really wish he had!

It's President Bush's MO is to stay above the fray and let the journalists look like the fools that they are.

It's General Honore's MO to throw out the S.O.S's to let the journalists look like the fools that they are.

Just joining the thread...

Is Bastardi still different than the weathercasters on the other cable stations?

Last night, he was still predicting it would go in at Galveston and High Island, up I-45 to Houston...

I know the local news in this area is predicting wind but NO RAIN for our area...gack!

Fox news interviewing 82nd Airborne commander Bill Cauldwell, says levee "structural failure, not just spillover".

Fox reporters are trying to get anybody to say "breech," and get past "overtopping."

Col. Cauldwell based his conclusion on the water being 3 feet deep, but he didn't say where it was 3 feet deep. 3 feet deep on the other side of the levee sense since the water in the canal is more than 7 feet higher than the 9th Ward.

No question there is serious flooding - but it'll be faster and deeper if the levee does in fact breech/open all the way.

3 Dog Night
Easy to Be Hard

How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no

And especially people
Who care about strangers
Who care about evil
And social injustice
Do you only
Care about the bleeding crowd?
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend

How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to give in
Easy to help out

And especially people
Who care about strangers
Who say they care about social injustice
Do you only
Care about the bleeding crowd
How about a needing friend?
I need a friend

How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be hard
Easy to be cold
Easy to be proud
Easy to say no

Ch.11's Dr. Neil Frank (former head of the NHC) is saying that he is not at all certain the turn more to the north into Port Arthur will take place. A direct hit on Galveston is still possible, and is its current track if it doesn't turn. The steering currents that would pull it more north are weak.
