Dangerous Hurricane Rita is expected to make landfall in the northeast Gulf of Mexico within 24 hours. Tornados have spawned in Louisiana. Water is filling the Ninth Ward of New Orleans again. A bus carrying elderly evacuees was gutted by fire this morning outside Dallas, with multiple fatalities. Television crews have positioned their hurricane reporters throughout the region to attain maximum drama effects. Whoooooa.

Thanks for the ping.
Sure is. The thugs left or are in hiding and most of us that are left here are armed, well fed and have been pissed since Clinton was first elected! ;-)
People criticizing Texas for not instituting contra flow sooner simply don't know what they're talking about. You can't just snap your fingers and make all Southbound lanes Northbound. There are legitimate reasons why some folks still had to travel into evacuated areas while others were trying to get out...not to mention first responders and those prepositioning supplies. Our city and state officials here in Virginia hate to even discuss contra flow, even though it's a part of our comprhensive evacuation plan.
We really appreciate what you are doing here. A lot!
We are starting to move stuff inside The Compound.
It is getting windy.
I gotta get up and get to work as my troops realized that I ain't really saving the world on the Internet!
I sure hope nobody pings TheMom to this thread! She is a real task master!
Where is Steve Herrigan?
anytime. Y'all getting a good breeze now?
Dr. Frank has a history of being a drama queen in storms. I trust the NHC more then him.
Michigan people are strange anyhow. Plus they claim to know a little about football. :)
I consider CARLA the powerful hurricane EVER...why? We all had to feel the affects of her for 44 yrs. CARLA gave us DANNY RATHER... ;o(
Spot on. People on the sidelines criticise, and have no earthly idea what it takes to move a few million people in 33 hours.
Getting a little breezy here. Off and on. Everyone ready??
Make lemonade with the water you plan to drink. You'll never know about the Chlorine.
Good question....I have no clue.
Forget Cantore. Where's Stephanie Abrams, and is she wearing her usual tight T-shirt and baseball cap?
(Yeah. I'm bad. Trying to inject some frat-house humor into a bad situation here...)
Cantore set up shop in Houston after being frustrated in his attempt to get to Port Arthur.
I seriously have never seen a President so disrespected, ever. They are SO rude to him, blatantly, about anything and everything.
I AM surprised not ONE of them said "Going back to Texas... on VACATION?" They are scum, all of them.
My old tagline: We'll have to deal w/ the networks. One way to do that is to drain the swamp they live in - Rumsfeld
The people are mostly out...how can that not be a success?
I don't know, but I bet they went over like a Satan burger with a side of Hell fries at a so-strict-they-think-heaven's-sinful Southern Fried Baptist Bible Revival and Gospel turkey shoot...
Sounds like the proverbial Calm Before the Storm. Hope you folks all stay safe out there.
Galveston, and at last check yes.
Hang in there. Godspeed
eye has clouded over on satlelite, sign of weakening...alos a huge north movement almost a NNW movement past 90 min
I-45 is moving at posted speed limits. Contraflow is no longer in place.
"Five people in the lunchroom yelled A$$hole in unison at the TV when he asked that question."
Tell them they didn't yell loud enough.
I CAN'T HEAR YOU! : )
Well, looking back we could not have gone back home in an hour and half had there been contraflo on Hwy 59. We bitched for 24 hours why they didn't open the other side (although we would have made it to my sister's house in half the time). We could never have turned around and made it back so easily.
Agreed. Why watch the Liberal media blame Bush for everything when you can watch TWC and see Stephanie Abrams's and her wet shirt.
We're watching the local news. They have N.O. film showing right now.
About 18 hours before landfall; not shabby at all despite what the presstitutes will say.
Well, then....all we need is a little cold rain...
Blowing pretty good on Galveston Bay, seas 5ft, wind topicial storm force out of the north. Just closed the bar, very few beer drinkers left here. Will post until I move to the more secure house, watching news and waiting until near hurricane force winds begin.
Thanks for that radar...I am in Louisiana...just SE of Lafayette. Needless to say, we're sweating out Rita. I've been lurking since Katrina and I've decided to join in.

Yeah, Monday Bastardi had me thinking there would be no Houston Texas left. I was scared to death (of course I may still be since we are staying- I will let you know after the hurricane).
I slept through a category 3. I hope I do the same with this one.
Is it going both ways now? I hope!!!
That reporter also asked President Bush "I mean..what can you do?" (I don't know who the reporter was).
It depends on what TV station you are watching.
that whole area was destroyed...it is near where the barge is sitting...
Whoa - now there's a flashback.
Huricane Evac or Nuclear Evac? Well, you are on the windward side of the lake, so....
