DiCaprio is Theodore Roosevelt
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have been named by Paramount Pictures to respectively star and direct in the adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Edmund Morris book The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, says Variety.
The film adaptation, currently being written by Nicholas Meyer (The Human Stain), will chronicle the political career of Roosevelt (DiCaprio), from a slight and privileged New York politician with a Harvard degree, right up to his ascension to the White House as the 26th U.S. president.
At present, DiCaprio and Scorsese are working on their third film together - after Gangs of New York and The Aviator - entitled The Departed, the Warner Bros. remake of the Hong Kong crime drama Infernal Affairs.
Having this sissyboy portray TR just isn't right.
I've always thought Gary Sinise would be great in the role. (Capt. Dan in "Forrest Gump).
He's a true patriot and could do some great cosmetic things to look like TR.
Other things aside...DiCaprio is a lanky six-foot-plus! Are they gonna make him stand in a ditch?

Howard Hughes was too far a stretch for him. Teddy's even more so.
I don't trust Hollyweird to stay faithful to the Edmund Morris biography either.

The very reason I didn't see the film. Interesting subject, dreadful casting for Howard Hughes. Looks like this male gigolo will continue to pollute the movies.

I think they could have done some easy cosmetic things to make him a GREAT TR.
Edmund Morris was considered a respected historian, and his book on a TR - a masterpiece. That's why he got the Reagan gig in the first place, and that is also why everyone was so shocked and horrified by his biography of Reagan.
Scorcese seems convinced that DiCaprio has range, but I've never seen it. Like so many actors pushed lately, I see them on the screen and think, for example, "He's acting like Darth Vader (or whoever)" instead of "That's Darth Vader."
TR was a man, not a boy.
The best thing going for this project is Meyer. He wrote a good Star Trek film in "The Wrath of Khan."
Actually, with sideburns I don't think DiCaprio would look too bad as a young TR. He just doesn't seem to match the persona.
DiCaprio is an actor. Movies are fiction.
They're going to make a movie about that cowboy who found himself in the Oval Office? ;-)
How quaint...
Hollywood would love to rewrite history. In fact, I can see the title of the film now - "A History of Freedom".
In the movie, a female Democrat and peace activist travels through time correcting what once went horribly wrong. She'd visit Hitler and talk him out of genocide and world conquest, and then convince FDR and Churchill that Hitler was absolutely serious, and that Britain and the U.S. should disarm completely. She would go back in time and rescue JFK from assassination. She might even travel to the fledgeling Soviet Union and help them realize that Communism is really about feelings.
And when she returned to her own time, the history of freedom will have been rewritten... Hitler would rule the Western World, Japan the Pacific, the Soviet Union will be clinging onto Siberia (because nobody wants Siberia), and Muslim terrorists will be terrorizing the chaos from the Mediterranean to China, and everything north and south.
Africa will have been cleansed by biological warfare on the part of the Nazis, and tyranny would dominate the four corners of the Earth...
Of course, in the movie they'll rewrite the ending so that she returns to a paradise... but that's just Hollywood for you.
