Opposing lawyers share thoughts on Schiavo case
Palm Beach Daily News ^ | October 1, 2005 | Michele Dargan

Posted on 10/01/2005 6:32:54 AM PDT by topher

The only issue that David Gibbs can ever remember Jesse Jackson and Rush Limbaugh agreeing on was the fact that Terri Schiavo should remain alive.

...

Gibbs called removing Schiavo's feeding tube "barbaric and uncivilized." Florida law does not allow the starvation of animals and the constitution does not allow the starvation of convicted murderers, he said.

...

Felos said faith-based organizations, religious leaders, priests and rabbis distorted the facts in the Schiavo case.

"I was recently told by a friend, who works at a nursing home, that the elderly were slowly being moved out of the nursing facility and being replaced by aids patients."

Your friend is mistaken. I used to be a social worker for people living with AIDS. By the time they are sick enough to require care, they rarely go to nursing homes, they are usually ready for hospice. Unfortunately, due to the incredible ignorance and bigotry around AIDS patients, many nursing homes/hospices won't accept them.

Look, i believe any natural occurance is an act of God for whatever reason there may be. Personally I do not know if a Hurricane hitting Florida is because of what they did to Terri, but you never know. It was only my opinion and I think that Terri's killers will be punished here on earth or after life one way or the other.

I don't know how Free Republic survived before you showed up a couple weeks ago. Is it very stressful being the one person who knows everything? Why, you even know that a particular nursing home that wasn't named does not admit AIDs patients. How do you know that? And would you mind sharing the name of the nursing home with those of us who don't know everything?

Would you please cut to the chase, and explain your purpose for being here? Are you here to tell us that involuntary euthanasia is good, especially if the patient is tortured to death? If that's why you're here, we don't need you. There are still a handful of surviving moles and trolls who show up periodically to promote torturing disabled people to death. Granted, there aren't very many of them, because this is a conservative forum. It might be a good idea for you to read "Statement by the founder of Free Republic" (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1103363/posts ) before you clearly state your views. If you don't see anything there that you can agree with, maybe this isn't the place for you.

An investigation could be started and such an investigation would lead to an indictment. I make various requests as a constituent. Go ahead and try to be a Mr. Smartypants on a Saturday night.

Greer is known as Amerika's worst judge. There a plenty of web sites with him in full nazi regalia. He's a RINO. He couldn't resist the aroma of the culture of death. Calvary Baptist Church recently gave a sermon about the "Bullies they used to have in their church... but they are gone now." No doubt, they were referring to George Greer.

It takes a real man to kill an innocent women, using the entire police force and judge friends and Fla AG Crist. How manly of all of them to murder an innocent woman and using law enforcement to make sure she'd not get one ice chip for her cracking lips and swelling tongue and she was tortured to death.

FOR SHAME.

The people are already dead who were starved to death at a Largo nursing home. What makes you think our adult protective services would have even bothered anyway? If you understood the culture here of clearing out nursing home beds, you'd know they have taken away forks and spoons.

Felos blames the courts for it taking so long to kill Terri. Can you imagine? The courts were his best friend. Of course, the courts know Felos is bashing them. They are all on the same team but I guess he needs to show some false outrage at the courts who gave him everything he wanted.

Well stated. Imagine, not allowing a mother to put water on the lips of her dying child and arresting a little boy who want to give her a drink. Who can forget that an innocent person was sentenced to a slow, torturous death? Only sociopaths would permit or defend the things done to Terri.

West Virgninian paper upset that their Governor is pro-life instead of pro-abort and was sharing a dais with Bobby Schindler. That's pretty sick to be so pro-abort that you get upset that Bobby Schindler wanted Terri, his sister to be saved instead of starved and dehydrated to death.

Culture of death members: be careful what you think you believe in because it may kill you.

It just keeps flowing...

Mercy Killing Storm Brewing

WASHINGTON — U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts presided over the Supreme Court for the first time Oct. 5, and the issue was a hot one: assisted suicide.

Consider how much assisted suicide has been in the news:

— An attorney who helped the family of Terri Schindler-Schiavo claims euthanasia is “happening every day.”

— Authorities in New Orleans are investigating hospitals and nursing homes for reports of “mercy killings” of elderly and infirm patients in the hours before Hurricane Katrina approached

Gorgeous George feels cheated. Death dealing is not so much fun when you have to wait so long for your thrill.

blames courts for prolonging case

George Felos, the attorney who represented Mr. Schiavo in the legal tug-of-war to disconnect Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, said the judiciary contributed to the perception that the courts were broken and were unable to reach a decision in the case.

First let me say thank you for the warm welcome. It's so gratifying to exchange ideas with people who think deeply about the issues of the day. ;)

However, I do need to clear up a couple of things.

"Why, you even know that a particular nursing home that wasn't named does not admit AIDs patients. "

I invite you to read my post more carefully. Nowhere did I say this about any specific facility.

"Are you here to tell us that involuntary euthanasia is good, especially if the patient is tortured to death?"

"Involuntary euthanasia" is a very vague term. There are certainly situations in which euthanasia, defined by Dictionary.com as

" 1. The act or practice of ending the life of an individual suffering from a terminal illness or an incurable condition, as by lethal injection or the suspension of extraordinary medical treatment.

2. A quiet, painless death"
,

is good. In fact, euthanasia comes from two Greek words which mean "good death", so in that sense all euthanasia is good. If the patient in question is actually "tortured to death", then euthanasia was not in fact practiced, since the death was neither good or painless. I certainly do not approve of torture.

As to my "purpose for being here", in an existential sense it is to seek enlightenment and reach Nibbana. In a more mundane sense, I thought it would be enjoyable to discuss certain matters with others with a view to learning something and perhaps imparting some things.

I believe there is nothing in the founder's statement that contraindicates asking questions, clearing up misinformation, sharing knowledge, or verifying sources.

Are there any other concerns I can address for you?

Death Attorney George Felos Criticizes Courts

Euthanasia Attorney George Felos Blames Courts for Prolonging Terri's Case.

Mr. Felos said the courts recognized that the parents of Ms. Schiavo had no real chance of prevailing on the merits of the case but allowed the law to be stretched so they could endlessly litigate issues, opening the door for Congress to intervene.

"The inability to end this case when the rule of law required it to end led to a perception in the other branches of government that something was wrong," he said.

George Felos' book reveals the sick thought process of the attorney who murdered Terri Schiavo

Felos wrote, "If our minds can conceive of an uplifting Holocaust, can it be so diffucult to look another way at the slights and injuries and abuses we perceive were inflicted upon us?"

Felos wrote about his anger towards his ex-wife, "I was on fire, fueled by thoughts of bludgeoning and tearing her apart."

8mm, all they can spew is prove it, prove it, prove it. I can prove that Terri was murdered by a whole bunch of people who were beholding to other bunches of people and some good guys turned bad.

Murder is a sin and is against the law. I don't have to prove what is already law. They broke numerous laws for years.

When they neglected and abused Terri numerous times ending in her death, they proved it themselves.

This country sunk to a new low. What a pitiful, inexcusable, unnecessary, cruel, dark, day March 31, 2005 was. How dare they???????????? It was murder.

I say that you have mistaken me entirely. I pretend nothing; I have no agenda. Do you consider civil debate to be disruptive?

I saw a thread on an issue which interests me. I entered the discussion, asking questions and offering information of my own. I participate on many message boards. On none of them save this one have I encountered refusal to cite sources, deliberate distortion of issues, and the willful mistaking of debate for disruption.

I had hoped for an opportunity to exchange ideas. Are you saying there is no such opportunity to be had here?

You must realize that it's not possible to provide evidence and names here. Terri's files were over 22 volumes and horror stories about the death care system in Pinellas County are being documented but not by me personally.

Pinellas County-Tampa Bay looks great from the outside and the beaches are highly rated but, it's ground zero for proponents of forced exits and assisted suicide.

There is no trust or confidence in the judiciary here. It's a farce. What more do you need to know?

The Republican Party is in trouble as well. That's no secret either. The faux republicans are destroying the RNC. It's a good thing the democrats are really stupid so it's going to be neck and neck next year.

Yes, I came onto this thread; that is what I said above. This, and the "Dirty Laundry" thread are the ones which interest me. I have, in fact, read quite a lot of the information and misinformation that has been posted on FR about this topic; I have also thoroughly familiarized myself with the facts of the Terri Schiavo matter through objective, nonpartisan sources. When I see references to aborting adults and involuntary euthanasia and nursing home residents having their forks and spoons taken away, I am fascinated. The last thing I do is play word games, as I have a very literal mind. I try to write clearly, and when I don't understand something another has written, I ask for clarification. It is pro forma on most message boards to cite sources when requested to do so; indeed, on most other FR threads it seems to be expected, as well. Therefore, I did not view this as an unreasonable or disruptive request.

Finally, I would add that, though I have indeed seen similar questions to mine asked here in the past, I have never seen any satisfactory answers. Why is that, do you suppose?

So let me once again state that I have no agenda. I am not threatened by people who disagree with me; I sincerely hope that all of you will no longer feel threatened by any views of mine which are different from your own.

Peace to you,
Clyffe

This is a great example of the tired word games we see so frequently. You subtly imply we are threatened by different views. Yeah, right. We are keenly aware of an element of Death Culture which invariably takes the defensive side of the perps. Many of them attempt to sound intellectual and learned with just a twinge of condescention.

Finally, I would add that, though I have indeed seen similar questions to mine asked here in the past, I have never seen any satisfactory answers. Why is that, do you suppose?

That is the simple one. They tried to disrupt, not discuss, and they are gone. We find folks like you can be given all kinds of facts, truths and answers and they are never the right ones for you so you keep pressing. We realize the act of asking the "Have you stopped beating your wife lately" is for effect, not for a rational answer.

I bet they mentioned Terri when they were thinking about illegally overdosing patients in NO. Terri gets mentioned somewhere every day. What a legacy.

It's ashame she was taken because if she were alive, just imagine the benefit to society to be able to see her progress if she finally got the care and therapy she deserved.

Please note the following text per SC DSS website:

The Division of Adult Protective Services protects the health and welfare of elderly and disabled adults. Adult Protective Services are provided to individuals who are 18 years of age or older and are victims of actual or potential abuse, neglect, or exploitation. This mistreatment may be caused by others or self-inflicted. DSS is authorized, by the Omnibus Adult Protection Act of the South Carolina Code of Laws, to investigate all reports and provide services. Services are provided to meet the adults' basic needs and to ensure their safety.

Some people are required to report by the nature of their profession. People in the following professions are required to make a report if they have reason to believe a vulnerable adult has been or is likely to be abused, neglected, or exploited; physician, nursem dentist, optometrist, medical examiner, coroner, other medical, mental health or allied health professional, Christian Science practitioner, religious healer, school teacher, counselor, psychologist, mental health or mental retardation specialist, social or public assistance worker, caregiver, staff or volunteer of an adult day care center or of a facility, or law enforcement officer. Also, any person who has actual knowledge of the abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a vulnerable adult must report the incident.

My comment: Many occupations that will be found around a nursing home.

North Country Gazette ....Judicial candidate in Clearwater.

Apparently headed for judgeships in the same circuit court system that caused her death.

Richard Pearse, Clearwater attorney, was appointed as the disabled woman's guardian ad litem. He filed his report with the court in December, 1998, urging that the court deny the petition to remove Terri's feeding tube.

He also recommended to Pinellas County Court judge George Greer that a guardian ad litem be appointed to protect her interests and indicated he did not believe Michael Schiavo and his sudden recollection that Terri would not want to live by a feeding tube.

More from North Country Gazette

PINELLAS COUNTY--A key player in the Terri Schiavo right-to-life case, heard in the Pinellas County courtroom of Sixth Judicial Circuit Court Judge George W. Greer, will now be sitting on the bench in that same courthouse, having been appointed to a new judgeship earlier this month by Gov. Jeb Bush.

John Carassas , 39, of Palm Harbor, who was serving as a deputy to Attorney General Charlie Crist, was the former state representative from House District 54 from 2000-2003, a seat now held by former Pinellas County Sheriff Everett Rice (R-Treasure Island) who is now seeking the office of attorney general. District 54 covers parts of Belleair, Largo, Clearwater and St. Petersburg as well as the Pinellas beaches.

You do have to agree that Michael Schiavo is a sadistic person and that that Terri was denied due process and killed in a barbaric way. Whatever Terri's condition, a mother was not allowed to put water on the lips of her dying child - that is horrific.

I recommend Martin Katz's article in "The American Thinker," March 29, 2005. It was also posted here on FR.
