Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday he will contemplate next year whether to run for president in 2008.
"I will be considering it next year," Giuliani said during a visit to Denmark. But he added that playing with the idea of running for the Republican nomination for president did not mean he would actually do it.
"Sometime you warm up and get ready and you don't get in and pitch," he told reporters, in a baseball analogy.
Giuliani who was praised for his leadership following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, thanked Danish firefighters who raised $8,400 in support for their New York colleagues.
"To us it was the only thing we could do, raise money and show our support," firefighter Jens Hjorth said.
Eight firefighters from the station raised the money by recording a CD with six songs called "The Skyline Changed." They sold 27,000 copies.
On Sunday, the band members handed over a copy of the CD to Giuliani, who in return gave them a New York Fire Department hat.
Giuliani was in Denmark to speak at a business leadership conference in the Danish capital on Monday.
In 2000, Giuliani ran for the U.S. Senate, but dropped out after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
I think it would be great if he ran for president of Denmark! Is Rasmussen term-limited?

Tancredo, when people outside this forum are aware of him, think of him as a nut extremist (that's a marketing issue, not a judgement).
Rudy dropped out of the senate race because he had cancer. I'm sure there are better reasons for dropping out (and continuing to be mayor of the world's most important city), but I can't think of too many right now.

How can he differentiate himself from Hillary? When he was running against her in 2000 they had virtually the same position on the issues. (He was a little more explicit on crime issues- although Hillary has always claimed she is tough on those issues. And her public statements, at least, on aboprtion were slightly to the right of his. Other than that, pretty much the same thing.)
Well said! There are for more pressing non-social issues to be addressed that the GOP has been AWOL for too long on:
- Govt. spending like "drunken sailors"
- Declaring war and mobilizing the country to victory
- Energy independence from our enemies
- Immigration/border enforcement to bring jobs/wages back to Americans (and stop the social service spending hemorrhage on ILLEGALs)

Granted, but he's not running against her now. He has unfinished business, doesn't he?
Rudy Giuliani ain't running in 2008, since he would be unelectable on a national level even if he wholeheartedly supported every single plank of the GOP platform.
Giuliani is way down my list of people that I would vote for although he is ahead of McCain.
The Second Amendment issue is very important, he is going to have to move very far on that before he has a shot in the primaries.
Another thing to consider is crossover votes. In the last few elections the GOP has pulled democrat voters because of, not in spite of, the gun and social issues. If we run a candidate that is just like the democrats on these issues then what incentive do they have for voting GOP?

He's defended PARTIAL BIRTH abortion on Hannity. That would be quite a reach, wouldn't it? It would be completely hopeless for him to switch over at this late hour.
I agree with your statement. I think Rudy could win the 2008 election, but he is no conservative. We need a strong conservative - with a backbone - now more than ever.
Don't bother, RINO. You won't get my support, nor any of my family.
Better that he reprise his run for NY Governor again.
To add one more thing here...
A strength that Giuliani has that is rarely mentioned is his ability to frame political issues in such a succinct and logical way that no matter what he says you find yourself nodding your head up and down.
The man would be a hell of a used car salesman.

If he's too liberal to be President, then he's too liberal to be Vice President. As far as I am concerned the two have the same threshold of acceptance.
When your family is a majority of the electorate I'll stop yawning.
Frankly, I think Bush is more a moderate than a conservative, let alone Guiliani. I like him. I think he's a wonderful statesman who led his city well in time of crisis. It was kool the way he turned down the check from that sultan [the one that crazy woman, Cinthia McKinney went running after]. But all that is jeapordized if he presses for the White House. I'd hate for that to happen.
