Ted Kennedy is against abortion but FOR womens rights. That is how he cake walks around his religion.
Do you feel that anyone in the public educational system should be barred from any leadership role in the Dept. of Education as well since the educational system is so leftwing?
The pastors actually support abortion??? The church itself "supports" it???
Or is it a case of "live and let live" (just about as bad - but still not quite the same).

The relevant thing is Meirs' view of precedent. Given that all lawyers are grilled with the supremacy of case law, and given that Miers has nothing indicating she has an opposing judicial philosophy (which would be remarkable indeed), it is highly unlikely she would reject the orthodoxy taught in law school.
The crisis of courts extends beyond personal feelings about abortion. One must have a correct understanding of the Constitution, and respect the limits it imposes on the courts.
The Founders intended the judicial to be the weakest branch of government. Does Miers share that view? Or does she accept the modern notion that supreme law comes from the bench?

Ok, I can except that, she hasn't been a judge. I would prefer it that way myself. She is a workaholic, she'll come up to speed very quickly, IMHO. Have you read any of her opinions?

I was a doubter, but as more information comes out, the more determined I am that this is a truly GREAT pick!
The way I feel about it is that if you are going to nominate a lawyer, then you nominate a judge. Otherwise you do the country and the world a favor and nominate someone who is not a lawyer at all (and maybe restore some common sense to the Court).
If you would not see any Bar qualification as advantageous, there would be a lot of conservatives who are now active for conservative causes in the judicial field out in the cold.
These are good signs..
But does she believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned? And if yes, would she act on it? I wish there were a way to know..

My church is pro-life, too. Unfortunately, my pastor is not.

I would hope that they have other qualifications. If not, their applications aren't resting on much.
I would guess that there's a conservative or two in the ACLU or the UN trying to reform it from the inside as well, but I wouldn't consider either one anything but a stain on a resume.
Fair enough. I believe that 33(?) Supreme court justices were not judges, so it's not exactly a precedence to nominate a non-judge. As long as she can read the Constitution, keep her hands off my weapons and refrain from legislating from the bench, she is far better than O'Connor any day......
