80% of Potential SCOTUS Nominees on W's List Decline His Offer
Fox News | 10-11-05 | freedom4me

Posted on 10/11/2005 9:08:44 PM PDT by freedom4me

During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

I recall reading where her name was off the table,,, as per the cabal and Janice herself.

I had a personal conversation with Janice after the confirmation that leads me to believe otherwise. It was the nervous nellies who took her name off. She's a fighter and she knows what's at stake.

The other day Rush said he met Janice Rogers Brown. She told of detesting her regrettable confirmation ordeal. As the old saying goes, "Even a dumb dog doesn't kiss a hot stove twice." Look at what Miguel Estrada went through. What a shame.

So, if 80% of the candidates lacked the cajones (I know, I know) to face the proceedings, what does that say about Miers?

Yes I would and I would relish the "challenge". I think Judge Roberts had fun running circles with the Democrat senators and I would too.

Sorry you are automatically disqualified since you haven't gone through the correct career path as stated by some posting on FR they say is in the US Constitution.

LOL - I'm sure that's what the leading jurists in this country worry about... "Oh no - what are the Freepers saying about me today - hope they aren't mean to me!"

Somehow - I don't think so.

Rush said on his show last Friday that he had met JRB at the Buckley bash and she told him he had no idea what it was like for a nominee to be filibustered for four years as she was.

I think the female who came in second was the CA judge from San Jose-a Hispanic. I think W wants the first Hispanic to be Gonsalez so she got passed over. I also think W "knows" that he will have one more slot to fill very soon and that is one reason he was anxious to pick someone that he deemed an easy confirmation and save the battle for the next one (or maybe even two).

Wrong!

Here's the quote, from another post now on FR: Dr. Dobson to Set the Record Straight on Miers Flap, which has the transcript of this interview:
JCD: Well, it’s true. The Democrats have so politicized that process that it’s become an ordeal and many people just don’t want to go through that. And I’m not sure I blame them. So, Karl Rove shared some of that with me. He also made it clear that the President was looking for a certain kind of candidate, namely a woman to replace Justice O’Connor. And you can imagine what that did to the short list. That cut it…I haven’t looked at who I think might have been on that short list, because Karl didn’t tell me who was not willing to be considered.

But that many have cut it by 80 percent right there.

Maybe I need reading lessons, but that reads to me like the 80% number refers to dropping the men, not dropping the decliners.

Even if this is true, the remaining 20% still would have been a better choice than Miers.

ROFLMAO...........please don't stop posting! You lose what little credibility you have left with EVER post.

Completely believable. Everyone remembers the Clarence Thomas nomination. For tens of millions of Americans who do not follow supreme court rulings, the one thing they most associate with his name now and for the rest of his life is the alleged harassment of Anita Hill, the pubic hair on a coke, porn videos, etc.

District and Appeals court nominations are one thing, but, as is now being demonstrated (and will continue to get worse) with Ms. Miers, the Supreme Court is completely different.

Do you think people have forgotten the attempt by the NYT to get behind the sealed adoption records of Justice Roberts' children to dig up dirt on him?

Of course. Absolutely. Without a doubt.

How anyone could refuse such a call to duty simply boggles my mind. There is no way that I could refuse this call and keep faith with those in my family who have died in the service of our country.

What a nominee has to endure in the present day is most regrettable. But many 18 year old boys have been called out to defned that Constitution on the field of battle and have been died or maimed in service to our country.

Service on the Supreme Court defending our Constitution is every bit as important as those who fight and die on the battlefield. And a lot less lethal. I have contempt for anyone who gets the call to defend our Constitution and declines "for personal reasons."

Your conversation with her is almost the exact opposite of Rush's... as per post #44.

Connie Callahan? I don't know anything about her, but her name was mentioned and all the conservative lawyer types said she was a known moderate. I believe she would be GWB next choice if H. Miers goes down.

"if you've got a chance at the top job, you should take a swing at it."

I dunno. I don't think I'd take it. 'Less they allow camo in DC. Did carpenter work there about 20 years ago. Didn't fancy it then.

You might need reading lessons. I take this sentence to mean that there were some women who did not want to be considered.

When GWB was Governor he called her a pit bull in size 6 shoes.
