The "Go-Go White Sox" reached the World Series in 1959. Go back further, to 1917, for the last South Side champs.

8 Ray Boone 6-01 188 Right Right 07-27-1923

That was the guy they traded for Ted Kluczewski. I believe Ray Boone is (or was) Aaron Boone's grandfather.

Thanks Clemenza. My experiences in Chicago land has been Skokie, North Shore and Niles, all Cubs fans. I went to the old WS Park and felt more at home with the fans, being from Pittsburgh.

Funny you say that about bankers. I got invited to the WS game by the bean counters at my company on touhy ave.

Go White Sox.

Excuse me, I just Love all of Chicago. Great people, great people and just an overall great experience.

They do know how to cram people into small houses though.

Nope. But I'll fix your sentence.

Sox win handed victory by the umps. woo hoo

You can try to gloat all you want. You will never remove the cloud or the asterisk.

Maybe next year they can win without help. But not this year.

Should the sox go all the way, they will always have an asterisk next to their name.

That's what they said about Bush in 2000. It didn't happen then and it won't now.

Ever been to Brooklyn?

Spent two years in Chicago and enjoyed it immensly. As a New Yorker, I truly believe that there are only two real cities in the U.S., New York and Chicago. Pittsburgh is a great town though.

Which asterisk is that?

That the Sox had 4 different pitchers pitch a complete game in one series?

That their combined ERA was 1.62?

Meg -
I think the White Sox are going to win the series. still, if Houston wins the NL there will be a great World Series. Think of the pitching matchup! I wont miss a single game. You going to watch?

That would be asterisk that handed those pitches those games.

Had the calls been rendered correctly, the outcome would have been very different. The fact tht the manager kept the pitchers in suggest he might have known the fix was in.

It is very unusual to have pithers playing full games at this juncture. But if you knew they couldn;t lose, it makes more sense.

Maybe yes, maybe no -- but like I said, take away those not just BAD but HISTORICALLY UNPRECENTEDENTLY HORRENDOUS calls
and ?quien sabe?

Take away from it what you will. If it helps you to sleep to think that the Sox didn't win as a result of bad officiating, fine.

But anyone with eyes and a brain will always know otherwise.

I know, how about you go start another whining thread instead of polluting this one with your whining losers excuses...

How about the 3rd String catcher allowing the stealing of second base while not even attempting a throw in that same game.

How about escobar throwing a meatball to Crede with an 0-2 Count...

can't blame those on the ump, who by the way made the correct call.

How about the phenomenal call that same ump made calling Rowand out at the plate.

How about the correct call today when the STUPID BUSH LEAGUE PITCHER TRIES TO CHEAT BY TAGGING THE RUNNER WITHOUT THE BALL IN THE GLOVE...

How about Great Pitching by the White Sox with 4 Complete games in a Row. Even the Angels only had three all year long. Oh I guess that's the umps fault too....

Talk about Cheaters... face it the Angels tried to cheat tonight, and even their Manager comes out screaming on a play so obvious, its' almost ridiculous....

So as for clouds, go look in a mirror, and face the truth....

The only Clouds out tonight were the ones with rain in them on the Angels Parade.

Facts are facts, something you can't seem to acknowledge....

Losers make excuses. winners take responsibility.... You can't seem to do that. So please explain what the Angels did wrong, please.... If you have any integrity to do so, that is?

NOW.... BACK ON TOPIC...

Angels Go Home... White Sox Go to the World Series.....

SCOREBOARD........

Oh and while we're here about cheating, How about the the 2nd baseman pretending to tag out Aguchi at second base while the ball bounces off his glove.....

And how about the CHEATING ANGELS FAN in RED Reaching over, grabbing the ball in the field of play thus not allowing a Great fielder the chance to throw the guy out at Home, and then the umpire allowing the runner to score the run, tying the game, even though he had not yet reached third base....

Yeah, talk about Asterisks all you want....

Losers make EXCUSES, Winners Take Responsibility...

It is obvious to at least me which side you RESIDE ON.

bWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..... tHANKS FOR THE CHUCKLES THOUGH, YOU ARE QUITE HUMOROUS....

Go --- Go ----- White SOx.....

Jesse Jackson is taking an early morning solo walk , north of Navy Pier, on the shores of Lake Michigan, when he notices a strange looking bottle that appears to have washed up on the sand. Picking up the bottle, he brushes off some of the sand that almost totally covered it, which reveals to him a very interesting, and possibly removable top.
With a twist of the top, it comes off, and much to Jesse's surprise, a large puff of smoke emits from the bottle, which turns into what appears to be some sort of genie.

With much excitement and glee the genie, the now released genie says to Jesse, "You have freed me from the bottle !! Since you have done me this great favor, I will grant you ANY one wish that you desire, as I have that power. Think carefully of what you want to be your wish, and I will make it so !!"

Jesse's mind races through many possibilities, but finally makes his decision, and relates to the genie his request.

"Almost all my life, I have tried to be a peacemaker. To me the best thing that I could wish for, would be something to bring more peace to this troubled world. I can think of nothing better in these troubled times, than to wish for peace in the Middle East. Use your powers to grant me that wish.

The genie replies to Jesse: "That is an almost impossible request, would you like to request something else?"

Pulling a crumpled map out of his pant's pocket, Jesse tells the genie as he unfolds it, "It might be obtainable. I have been thinking on it for a long time", and handing the genie his map, he pleads,"Please look at the map and see if you could make it happen !!"

With map in hand the genie starts to ponder Jesse's wish as he tells Jesse,"Well, by looking at this map, there is hardly anywhere to begin. You've got Syria over here who does'nt get along with Jordan, and now that Saddam is gone, Iran is afraid that their people will want to have a non-religious form of gov't also. Saudi Arabia is having trouble also, and poor Kuwait seems to get caught up in a lot of the skirmishes, and Israel is hated by almost all of the countries that surround it, due to the Palestinian dillema. The Middle East turmoil has festered for thousands of years, and will almost surely take
someone with greater powers than mine to resolve it"

As the genie refolds the map, and hands it back to Jesse who dejectedly puts it back in his pocket, he continues. "I am sorry that I cannot grant you your wish for peace in the Middle East. My powers are very great, but I am afraid that that wish is an impossible one for me. Please choose another wish in it's place. I will grant that wish for you."

With his wish for peace in the Middle East rejected, Jesse contemplates his "replacement" wish for the genie. After a few moments, a smile spreads across Jessie's face, which turns to almost total glee as he replies to the genie.

" I have thought of another wish to take it's place . I am from Chicago . The Chicago Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908. It is now going on 2006. My wish is for the Chicago Cubs to win another World Series !!!"

Upon hearing Jessie's new wish, and after contemplating it for a few seconds, the genie gives the answer to Jessie's
request.

"I'll tell you what Jesse,.....let's have another look at that map !!"
