piperpilot, do a net search for "pet friendly hotels" and you'll find several sites with listings for them.

Piper, go to google and key in "Motels which accept pets." LetsGoPets.com, and takeyourpet.com are two I found. Hope they find a place.

Same here, never seen an eye so small...only a 2-4 NM.
Last time I looked yesterday it had just made a Cat 1.
My thought on hearing Cat 5 was that surely they must be saying it could get there, not that it already has.

There went the Gilbert record of 888. Enough new records already! Those on the coast have my prayers.

The guess the NHC wasn't exaggerating yesterday about "extremely favorable conditions for strengthening"...what a year for them. I bet they all need a long vacation. As well as coastal residents.

Im in the DFW area and have hurricane fatigue!

Westerly winds are going to knock her down big time. Lots of time on this one...she'll become a major rain event. Bet she doesn't hit the USA.

If there is a weather hound that is asleep right now, I'd be shocked. Folks that I had no clue were weather hounds have called me this early in the morning to share the jaw dropping news.

What about one that basically collapsed from exhaustion? (that would describe me :-)

Piper - what County are they in. I live in SW Florida and will look at shelters in their county and get back to you.

Tell them to get a pet carrier. WSHTF, nobody counts # people in a room or pets. AND, when they get to wherever they are going... they can call a pet shelter. As long as the pet is in a carrier, and not in the room they are okay. Work that out when they get to their destination. If they pick a destination, maybe you could call around arranging for the pet.

"Did you happen to hear the President's talking about quarantining cities and regions of the country in event of the bird flu pandemic? That was unnerving... creepy."

Yes it was. I'm beginning to think we won't have the pandemic this year...maybe next. I've backed-off some on my stocking time frame.

This storm is going to hit New Orleans again - there's no way it's going to make a sharp right turn.

There is a cold front pushing westward through the middle of the US right now. The jetstream is flowing along that boundary.

As Wilma moves northward, it will encounter the jet, and turn sharply eastward and dramatically increase its forward motion.

Not a problem. Wish I could have provided better-sounding info, but Wilma was must uncooperative.

Well here in sunny Boca Raton we are all excited. Really, it is too early to prognosticate, but our local weather folks say it will weaken because of cooler waters and wind shear. Plus they maintain that, because of factors beyond my understanding, the various computer models even though they appear to agree very much are highly inaccurate at this stage. That said, we are getting prepared!!!

They're in Collier (Marco Island). I told them to just make a reservation and sneak the dog in via the back door. I also suggested they drive up to Maryland and stay with me, but I think they will hold off on that unless it is a last resort. I want them to get off that island as soon as possible given that it is an island and there are only two bridges that lead to the mainland.

I'm just hoping these hurricanes leave my primary stockpile alone!! ;) Seems to me, the mutations would have to do some really fast mutating. Who knows. Another thing, how do you stop birds from migrating... in a quarantine. I've been doing some research on this, BTW, and found an incident in Columbia... with chickens.

Don't bother replying to E3 as there will be no reply. His/her comment was so boneheaded it's indefensible.
