Iran's hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday openly called for Israel to be "wiped off the map"."The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world," the president told a conference in Tehran entitled 'The World without Zionism'.
"The skirmishes in the occupied land are part of a war of destiny. The outcome of hundreds of years of war will be defined in Palestinian land," he said.
"As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map," said Ahmadinejad, referring to Iran's revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
His comments were the first time in years that such a high-ranking Iranian official has called for Israel's eradication, even though such slogans are still regularly used at regime rallies.

I've been opposed to American invasions in the middle east, but this flaming Iranian a-h-le seems to want it to happen. He has a death wish, I guess. If he were sane, he'd be talking about commercial trade with Israel and the US, to make his country more prosperous - - instead he seems to crave destruction for himself and desolation for his people. It will do more tha stiffen Israel's resolve. I'd put good money on a pre-emptive airstrike by Israel of Iran's nuclear facilities. Israel has been there, done that. The members of the Iranian leadership either have short memories or no brains to go with their big mouths....
GW wisely will leave the solution to the Iranian nuclear problem to the Israelis. High time for Israel to earn its 3 billion-plus annual defense subsidy from us...

It seems to me that the Persians were more or less sympathetic (or at least Darius was)with the Jewish people. Unfortunately that great civilization was replaced by a cult of uncivilization.

There is less anti-semitism among the people of Iran than anywhere else in the middle east proper. This dating back to the days of the persian empire before the scourge of mohammed.
It is interesting to read the above styled thread as prelude to the ghastly bombing in Hareda. Is it connected? Ahmedinejad also promised a major Palestinian strike. Who knows? The stars?

In Denmark i am sad to report that it is only a big news in one newspaper and that it is a slightly conservative oriented paper. When Bush called the regime evil people were screaming and kicking here, but when Irans own president wants to wipe Israel of the map, then we pass it in silence.
