I have been an Evangelical Christian for almost 35 years, and I have seen very little of born again repeats. Indeed, I don't think I can recall more than 2 during that time.

Then you don't deal with a lot of youth - they tend to get resaved every time they go on a retreat or to a conference.

This should not be news to you if you are truly on the front lines of spreading the gospel. Many Christian writers have covered the subject such as Hank Hannagraaf in "Christianity in Crisis".

Also, this means you've never been to a Church of God church as being saved multiple times is not discouraged.

Santorum would never get nominated for the same reason Edith Jones would never get nominated.

They have both called for overturning Roe v. Wade.

***

I think Santorum's sanctimonious bull-chip is what will eventually get him bounced out of office -- it has started to wear thin among most ordinary people. And he can forget about being a justice. If he should happen to become a judge, I think I'll move to Cambodia.

I know you have spent hours working on Republican campaigns -- Blackwell would make an awesome Governor. We have also discussed our differences with Pres Bush before so anyone that accuses you of being in lockstep doesn't read very well.

Dr. Coburn's reluctance on this nomination spoke volumes to me -- I expect the next nomination to be someone we can all get behind. For whatever reason he nominated her, I don't think she was thoroughly vetted from some of the info that came out this week. Personally I would have preferred she go through the Judicial hearings but I think it was her choice to withdraw. I heard her visits to some key Republican Senators did not go well. I think she withdrew on her own over and above the loud roar of conservatives. She was over her head IMHO. This President would have stuck with her to the end because that is the way he is, and I cannot fathom him putting any pressure on her.

With the visits going poorly, I think she saw the handwriting ont he wall and did the honorable thing.

Whether one was pro/anti/noncommittal on Miers, the stupid flame wars here, need to stop right now!

Anyone, ANYONE, who uses this nomination or withdrawl as an excuse to NOT vote and to NOT get out there and work, in every possible way, to take down the Dems, needs to go join DU. YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM; NOT THE ANSWER!

Waving cheer leading pompoms at you, PKM. :-)

How do you stand on Blackwell's comments regarding McCain?

“Senator McCain is a national hero and a man of integrity and principled leadership,” said Secretary Blackwell. “

"They are ALL missing the point. The President had the Constitutional right to nominate her, and she had the right to be heard."

We're talking about politics here, not law.
The President did indeed have the constitutional authority to nominate her.

There is no "right to be heard" for a nominee. It's not in the Constitution, and it's not in the law. The Constitution says "advice and consent of the Senate". If the Senators decided to do everything by letters with each other and never talk to the nominee at all, they have that right. A nominee has no legal "right" to do anything, under our Constitution.

Yes, Miers has been successfully Borked by the Right.
That's what happens.
That's politics.
Politics is about power. It's a game played for keeps, to get power in order to impose your will on others through the law.
There are not very many true "rights" in politics, certainly not very many constitutional ones.

There is no "right to get an up or down vote".
There is no "right to be heard".
The President has the authority to appoint people to vacancies on the Supreme Court, but he has no "right to get his people on there".

Nobody's rights were violated here.
An enormously powerful position was in the hazard, and the stronger side imposed its will on the weaker side. That's the way politics works on all issues, every time.

The President has a weak hand. If he wants to strengthen it, he will give the conservative right exactly what it wants on this issue. And they will be happy to be back on board and cooperate with him on something else. For example: you give the right a red meat conservative on the Supreme Court, and many of them disengage from the fight over the Mexican border.

But you screw them on judges, and then the border becomes ANOTHER issue by which they find allies and roll you.

The President has the power to name whoever he chooses.
If he uses that power foolishly, and angers political factions more powerful than he is, he will be thrown to the ground by political jujitsu and embarrassed.
If he doesn't want to go through that again, then the prudent thing to do is to appoint someone the right wants.

That's politics.
Rights have nothing to do with any of it.

She just said she "loves President Bush again" --- talking to John Gibson.

Well my opinion of her over all this hasn't changed

I sure as hell won't vote for McCain or Hagel or any of the others who have been named.

If either one of those are the GOP candidate then you'll have a lot of company!!

I feel that we are going through a Nixon/Ford or Bush 41 moment. Things look bad now as the party has drifted very much to the left fiscally and appears to have lost it's way.

I think that this will probably lead to a democratic takeover in 2006 or 2008, but will lead to great things as they did in 1980 with the Reagan Revolution and in 1992 with the take over of the House after 40 years of being in the minority.

Great things will happen, but first the current crop of GOP leaders needs to be sent home.

The Senate Judiciary Committee most likely would have voted her down. Pres Bush did not ask her to withdraw and neither did anyone I personally know -- our State GOP Chairman even said it would have been better if she went through the hearings.

IMHO this was her personal decision after her visits to key Senators and her lack of response to fairly easy questions from what I have heard. I don't think she was prepared for the hearings, her writings were against her, and all in all she did what she thought was the best thing for the President and that was her decision to withdraw.

I would have preferred she go through the hearings but I don't walk in her shoes. I just don't think she was thoroughly vetted and her response to Senators whose support she needed was not very good.

CNN: HARRIET MIERS HAS WITHDRAWN!

Has your "peach of a mind" elevated you to head of a 400-attorney law firm not to mention the highest-ranking attorney in the White House?!

Don't you think any judge would sustain an objection to the irrelevance of your question? Hmmmmm?

Attacking me will not bring your nominee back. LOL

Great things will happen? Not in your lifetime.

Remember how crooked they were in 2000 and 2004? Just imagine how it will be with liberals in control of everything.

If the Democrats regain power in 2006 and 2008, which I believe could happen, they will be in power until the day you and I die.

What the heck do you think this is all about?

She was denied her rights.

What rights was she deprived of? If she had remained the nominee then she would have received a hearing and then an up/down vote. She and the president are the ones that withdrew the nomination.

Also, what false charges were levied against her? Also, why do you think that those opposed to the Miers nomination don't follow the constitution?

Janice Rogers-Brown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only is she well-qualified, but will win her own public relations battle through her own words... without any assistance necessary from ANYONE!

This also brings the radical hate groups like michael moore & moveon.org, etc., and blame American first senators like john kerry, joe biden, barabara boxer, hillary clinton and company in play. All these groups, their supporters and leftist senators can't hold a candle to Janice Rodgers-Brown. She can take them on with 'half her brain tied behing her back".

DO NOT wimp out again President Bush! Your interception was called back because of a penalty... it's now first and goal AGAIN from the once millimeter line. Janice Rogers-Brown!!!
