MEXICO CITY An aide to President Vicente Fox says the Mexican government favors immigration legislation proposed by U-S Senators Edward Kennedy and John McCain.
The plan would allow current illegal immigrants to work in the U-S for up to six years.
Presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar today said the bipartisan proposal is the one that comes closest to what Mexico wants.
Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez discussed such issues yesterday during meetings in Washington.
President Bush has urged Congress to act on a guest worker program and has proposed a plan that would allow undocumented workers to get three-year work visas.
Those visas could then be extended for three more years. Immigrants would then have to return to their home countries for one year to seek a new work permit.
... and some people say McCain stands a chance in 2008. What a joke.
Well of course they do.
You might as well relax and watch it happen, nothing to do about it. The PTB want it to happen, and there is nothing short of an armed revolt that will stop it from happening.
You know or you should know that at any time some future congress can amend this law and remove the stipulation that they have to return to their country and apply for a work visa. They do it all the time. It is a sucker bet.
Kennedy and McCain are emigrating to Mexico? That's great news.
all the more reason to dislike the proposal.
MEXICAN GO HOME
I favor charging Mexico half the cost of the wall. Its their citizens causing the problems.
Well, who cares what Mexico wants? Are McCain and Kennedy members of the Mexican Congress now?
Of course - slime balls stick together.
Good Lord! Things just get more phatasmagoric here in the 'bizarro world' known as America. Does it make messrs. McCain and Kennedy all warm and fuzzy appealing to what Mexicans want? With idiocy like this seriously being bantered about, I fear the United States has a dismal future as an independent nation. It saddens and enrages me beyond belief. The best move would be to send all our liberals - and RINO's a la McCain - to Mexico.
"Well, who cares what Mexico wants? Are McCain and Kennedy members of the Mexican Congress now?"
An EXCELLENT question. It's disgusting you even have to articulate this.
Yeah, and Mexico must be placated at all costs...It seems a fait accompli. Today I talked to a WWII vet who said he doesn't recognize his country anymore and feels unsure of the meaning of his sacrifice. When I read this, I feel the same way. I can't help but wonder why the men in my family fought and died in the world wars so that men like McCain---supposedly an honorable veteran---could give the country away with the stroke of a pen.
Common sense should tell people these guest-worker plans are unworkable. Without rigorous enforcement of the immigration laws, there's no reason for employers to comply with guest-worker rules. Why would an employer document a worker if there's no penalty for not doing so, and if the worker is on the books, the employer has to pay social security taxes, minimum wage, and worker comp?
I say, let them first prove they are willing to deport the illegals and protect the border. There's nothing wrong with immigration itself, but letting the lawbreakers win is a slap in the face of everyone else who has played by the rules. I wouldn't mind if they let more people legally immigrate to the US, but simply making all the illegals legal with a stroke of the pen is a grave injustice!
No, it'll be REALLY disgusting when we have to provide a bilingual translation for everything we say, even on FR:
¿A quién le importa un bledo lo que desea México? ¿Ahora son miembros del Congreso Mexicano los senadores McCain y Kennedy?
I wouldn't, either. Play by the rules, pay your fair share, be prepared to work and join the dominant culture, and you can come here--legally.
They stay here now for as long as they wish and can stay undetected. What makes him think they will voluntarily return for the one year if inacted? Will current illegals suddenly become law-abiding because McCain and Kennedy have said so?
