Skip to comments.Bush: Judge Samuel Alito is new choice for Supreme Court nominee

Per Fox News...
Agreed. We must all show the RINOs no quarter.
You can't say that, it's uncostimatooshunul!
I was disappointed in that also, and REALLY wanted Toomey. Though, I don't think he would have won in the election. PA just doesn't seem ready for a real conservative in that seat. I sure would have liked to have been rid of Specter. That would be a BIG HUGE lib loving RINO out the door. Maybe next time. It would sure be nice. Get Santorum behind the person, then he gets to be the Sr. Sen. from PA, and we get a real Republican in that seat instead of Specter. 8) Everone wins, except the democrats who lose a Republican seat that sided with them half or more of the time.
Up or down vote or...Nuke these weak-kneed wimps! All of them, Rinos or libs, nuke them now, do it for the children! :)
But you are trying to deny the President his prerogative to nominate and withdraw at will. Heck, even with a confirmed nominee, the President has no Constitutional obligation to appoint.
I wanted her to go to the Senate, never dreamt she'd withdraw. But her hearings were going to be an embarrassing disaster.
Of course, as is Pee Wee Herman.
Miers was cheerleader, confidant and sounding board for President Bush. Her personality type is keyed into how people really feel - and because of that she's be able to offer a type of counsel others can't.
I was against Miers being confirmed, but she's won my respect for her important spot on the team.
My concern is she would have performed the same function on the SC. Miers might have attached herself to a conservative -- and we'd have an extra conservative justice. Great. Or she could have attached to a liberal..
Powerful men who surround themselves with powerful "truth tellers" only, are handicapped. Bush is smarter than that -- but he confused the mirror she holds up to him, with the person she is... Powerful people needs a "Miers" on the team, and she deserves our respect. Not confirmation...
When we put the best and the brightest people out as our argument instead of "quota" pick, we'll win the argument EVERY time. The country won't be fooled by the MSM.
I could not agree more! and LET'S DO IT NOW!... WHEN IT'S FRESH... SO THEY get a real picture, real QUICK of what's coming if they do the same little trick of las time
None, the aforementioned Senators need to be pushed so they won't backdown from the scrum.
It only takes a simple majority to change floor rules...
That would leave just souter and breyer. And it will be a sweet day indeed when souter retires if there is a Republican President. That's a mistake that has been a LONG time in correcting. 8)
We already knew the list was extremely short...plus, this guy was born in 1950 i think...he isnt old by my definition and in 28.
That's the Gonzales seat.
Anyone born after I was born is plenty young. ;)

I hope you're right. In recent years kennedy has been WAY too concerned with his legacy and not near as concerned enough about doing what the Constitution says. He reads what the media says about him too much. If having Roberts and Alito on the court helps make kennedy more conservative by proxy of their presence, then that is a firm five, and a MAJOR swing, which is what I've thought it would be having o'conner off the bench. She was a moderate at best. No conservative in her at all.
Because I like to believe Bush promotes women in his administration but I guess we just don't have enough qualified women.
Locked and loaded - let's rumble. I am sure we will have our fight, bring it on!!!
I send my $100 contribution to the RNC with a note to tell them that we want everyone in the pubbies to vote for Judge Alito. AND I'LL SEND MONEY TO DEFEAT ANY REPUBLICAN TO VOTE AGAINST JUDGE ALITO. It's money talk!!! SIGH.
Specter and Alito are friends. He will fight for him.
Bitter? Heck no. I'm delighted. Judge Alito is a mainstream conservative of Italian descent. I'm a mainstream conservative of half-Italian descent. All is right in my world.
However, if you're asking if I'm alientated from the Ingrahams, Coulters, Frums, Buchanans, etc., you bet. I don't like them. I don't respect them. And I sure as heck don't need them to do my thinking for me.
Well, I think the bottom line is what's done is done, and now we have one of the best possible picks for SCOTUS!

Contact him NOW, everyone!! He's a WIMP, but he'll listen if we all scream loud enough."
Thank you. I will call and email and fwd it to my list. The more people that do that the better!!! 8) And here's to replacing him with a real conservative in the comming years. 8) **knock wood**
The President made a good choice.
Not an issue for anyone here.
Don't forget DeWine and Voinovich!
As long as the blood isn't ours - fine.
That would be strategery of the conspirational type.
A great big ditto for that.
Check out the anti-filibustering 14.
It will be really interesting to see
just where Byrd lines up on THIS vote!
Old Sheets stuck by his word and voted
YES for Roberts. As for the others, take

Yes, we are. :-)
By the way, forwarded to Rush Limbaugh. Hopefully it will pop up on his site. Great job.
Alito will be so impressive in the hearings that the filibuster option will die a quick death.
Meanwhile, bombard Senators of both parties with tremendous support for this nominee. Make 'em all feel the heat.
Were it true, I would be extremely impressed.
What are you doing on this website?
Real conservatives promote people based upon their qualifications - and leave sex out of it.
We do not need another so-called conservative promoting a femnist agenda.
If I remember correctly, George Walker Bush is President - Not Harry Mason Reid.
Someone should tell that weak kneed little whiner to STFU!
Excellent, Miss Marple! I concur.
Done. ....and I'll try my best not to make Voinovich cry.
So you agree that there are NO qualified women suitable for the SC?
I just love all the revisionism going on here. Cboldt, it was just a week ago that you and many others were demanding right of first refusal on the President's judicial nominees. Or, to put it another way, you wanted to do the nominating and just have him follow along.
Well, you got one of the names on the approved short list handed down from your high priests and priestesses. You're going to have the fight you all claim you wanted. But are you really going to fight or just sit around here on FR revising your own past actions?
And you believe choosing a woman is "promoting a feminist agenda"? In what way?
Too good to be true - this must be a trick!
I'll give it a shot. I'll update the file and upload it again so the pic in reply #1148 will be updated. You'll need to clear your browser cache.
I don't pay much attention to the ranch stuff, but not so long ago, the NY attorney General Spritzer (sp) began an investigation of the Imus' ranch, but very quickly it ended with Imus getting a letter of apology from the NY AG. I think I'm describing what happened accurately, at least as Imus described it.
