Intifada in France
The New York Sun ^ | November 4, 2005 | New York Sun Staff Editorial

If President Chirac thought he was going to gain peace with the Muslim community in France by taking an appeasement line in the Iraq war, it certainly looks like he miscalculated. Today the streets of the French capital are looking more like Ramallah and less like the advanced, sophisticated, gay Paree image Monsieur Chirac likes to portray to the world, and the story, which is just starting to grip the world's attention, is full of ironies. One is tempted to suggest that Prime Minister Sharon send a note cautioning Monsieur Chirac about cycles of violence.

Back in the 1990s, the French sneered at America for the Los Angeles riots. As the Chicago Sun-Times reported in 1992: "the consensus of French pundits is that something on the scale of the Los Angeles riots could not happen here, mainly because France is a more humane, less racist place with a much stronger commitment to social welfare programs." President Mitterrand, the Washington Post reported in 1992, blamed the riots on the "conservative society" that Presidents Reagan and Bush had created and said France is different because it "is the country where the level of social protection is the highest in the world."

Exactly so. Read the article by Thomas Dalrymple "The Barbarians at the Gates of Paris" posted yesterday or the day before, if you haven't.

If all these "youths" had to work to stay fed, none of this would be happneing.

what this has to do with Bush's border policy? Everything!

The French imported foreign workers when there was a great need for cheap labor. (same as TX and CA) when the economy tanked, the French found they had massive unemployment in the Muslim gettos with no answer in sight. If you don't think it can happen here, think again. In Texas, we already have DRUG CARTELS operating in Dallas, TX., Ft.Worth Star-Telegarm last Sunday did a series of articles on the fact that the horific Colonias once thought to be only on the TX/Mexican border were here in the Ft.Worth-Dallas area--communities designed to accomodate 300 families now contain 5,000. Sewers backing up, shallow water wells contaminated with people drinking heir own sewage, a city's water supply also contaminated with high levels of e-coli, anchor babies now having more babies, no fathers, all on welfare, many families living together in crowded mobile homes, etc, etc. When all this is going to get better for these poor people is anyone's guess. How long before they too, get desperate enough to riot is also anyone's guess. You might pray for our economy.

The frogs better stand up and put down this insurrection fast. If Muslims gain control of the government and their multitude of nuclear facilities, then this will become our, and the whole world's problem.

"what this has to do with Bush's border policy? Everything!"

You are comparing illegal immigration of Mexicans in the U.S. with a 5% unemployment rate to legal immigration of Muslims in France with a 10%+ employment rate.

I'm sorry, but the word "immigration" is the only correlation there.

Thank you for the reply. Liberals don't know when to stop. I'm a conservative Bush supporter in New York City, which basically means ,according to most New Yorkers, I am a Christian gun toting right-wing anti-environmental war monger extremist who shouldn't have the right to speak, write, protest or vote.

The big difference is that Mexicans are not Muslim, and that most of them work and want to return to Mexico.

However, we need to do something to get control of the situation with illegals, who are an enormous tax burden (particularly now that they can receive all the services and perks of legal immigrants). I am in favor of a guest worker program, which was in effect until it was destroyed by LBJ as a favor to Cesar Chavez and the labor unions.

Incidentally, France (and England) had many, many Spanish and Greek immigrant workers until about 30 years ago. The difference was that they worked for a living (the Muslims live on welfare), most of them wanted to go back home when they retired - and they weren't Muslim.

They did not walk up to a handicapped woman, douse her in gasoline, and set her on fire.

You are right, they got on the bus, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire. --- BIG Difference.

Heh... I'm guessing that Turkey will beat France in that, but only by a few years. I'd hate to see it of course, but I'd not be tremendously surprised if effectively independent states within France are permitted to impose sharia on immigrant population, just to quell the riots. Charles Martel died a long time ago.
One is tempted to suggest that Prime Minister Sharon send a note cautioning Monsieur Chirac about cycles of violence.
Ah, but that wouldn't be apropos -- the French aren't concerned when Jews in France are murdered, maimed, massacred, or merely hassled in France, because they are not considered French citizens by French politicians.
Back in the 1990s, the French sneered at America for the Los Angeles riots. As the Chicago Sun-Times reported in 1992: "the consensus of French pundits is that something on the scale of the Los Angeles riots could not happen here, mainly because France is a more humane, less racist place with a much stronger commitment to social welfare programs." The LA riots happened because Rodney King got a little boo-boo for resisting arrest during a stop for DUI; it was a great excuse for burning down the laundrymats, grocery stores, and their own homes. That'll teach everyone a lesson. ;')

The irony is that even as the Franco-German axis is doing everything possible to prevent accession talks with Turkey its constituent parts are gradually-but inexorably-becoming Muslim states.

They are idiots. Turkey is model of how a Muslim country should be - it has come a long way!! Saying that, Turkey's ascension into the EU will only worsen the Muslim immigration problem in Europe. The joining of Eastern European countries means illegal immigrants from that part of Europe now have citizenship!!

It's anyone's guess which nation will implement sharia law first, France or Turkey.

Strange how it will be France!!

It's an illuminating-and concise-primer on the inner sanctum of French Islamists.

I forget if it's the GSPC, or the GIA, but one of them had an ingenious way of carrying out homicide bombings.

They would take two vans:

The first one would be filled with hirsute, robed, devout-looking, older men.

It would be stopped immediately at a checkpoint outside of Algiers, or whatever city they were targeting.

After discovering that there were no explosives, they would be waived through by the authorities.

The second one-filled with beardless young men, blasting rock music from their car speakers, with dyed hair and earings-would be waved through immediately.

It was only after that van exploded-killing and maiming dozens of people-that the authorities would realize their mistake.

You have to admit, the Muslims are very clever in how they murder people, if nothing else.

the story, which is just starting to grip the world's attention

Why would that be, eight days after it began?

President Mitterrand, the Washington Post reported in 1992, blamed the riots on the "conservative society" that Presidents Reagan and Bush had created and said France is different because it "is the country where the level of social protection is the highest in the world."

Sorry, I can't help but laugh.

my 15 year old son, who had to sit in class yesterday and watch a film on how great France is and how horrible Bush and the US are. He said the entire film was anti-American and he walked out of the classroom. Before he left he said "I'm not watching this bull Sh*t."

You done good ma!

(teacher gave him detention!) She can read this while he sits in detention! By the way, we live in MASS...Liberalism is a prerequisite to getting a teaching job!

Where! I'm in MA, and I'd love to know.

I read a different report, in which the molotov cocktail was thrown onto the bus, and she couldn't get out.

But if the case is that gasoline was intentionally poured on the woman and set alight, that is indeed attempted assassination, and not merely a malicious and potentially deadly act.

Let there be any frequency of that sort of thing, and the police will use much greater force. Then things will escalate in very unpredictable and destructive ways.

One in 3 under 30 in France is Muslim. In a few years it will be one in two. France is DOOMED unless they do the unthinkable. I think the few frenchies who are not too busy fornicating and swilling wine realize it.

If they had jobs period none of this would be happening.
And THAT is the root of the problem, not Islam.
