A federal lawsuit charges that Fox News has harassed and discriminated against its female employees and created a "hostile work environment because of their sex."
The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan's Federal District Court by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
The suit is based on an EEOC investigation of a claim brought by a former Fox employee, Kim Weiler.
"We investigated the allegations and charges that were made and found them to be baseless," Steven Mintz of the New York law firm Mintz & Gold told the New York Times.
The firm represented Fox News in the commission's investigation. "Fox News questions the motivations behind the charges," Mintz added.
The EEOC suit charged that a Fox vice president "routinely used gross obscenities and vulgarities when describing women or their body parts," language that it says the executive "did not use with male employees."
The suit also contends that the executive "routinely cursed at and otherwise denigrated women employees," telling them to "be a man," the Times reported.
The suit also alleges that Fox routinely assigned female employees to freelance work and less secure jobs.
It adds that Kim Weiler was "constructively discharged" as a result of the network's practices. The Times says that it was not clear whether she was fired. The lawsuit demands that Fox institute policies to correct what it calls the discrimination against women at the news network and asks for punitive damages.
Catherine Porridge's haircut springs to mind...
Lack of job security is part of the business. They can fire you because they don't like the color of your eyes. No explaination needed.
The Slimes automatically makes this story less than credible.
The VULTURES are out for Fox.
When you are Number 1 , the Feminist and the New York Slimes want your blood !!
You meant to say 'exaggerated lips. . .and lip gloss'. . .right? It is almost funny; but really I don't care what visuals Fox uses to gain audience appeal. Better info there for sure; compared to the rest of the net/cable. . .I want as many people tuning in as they can reach.
As for the claim. . The suit also contends that the executive "routinely cursed at and otherwise denigrated women employees," telling them to "be a man,"
I guess we will hear from them or the lawyers will. . .(?)
Nonsense! If they have a good pair of legs in a short skirt there is no limit to how far they can go at Fox. They are the industry leader in knee-level cameras, glass tables (not ceilings), and anchor eye candy.
Except that women are a protected group under title 9. Only "whitey" can be fired for no reason...as long as he is under the age of 40.
Pretty news babes are a TV tradition on networks and local stations. Our local stations burn through them so fast I rarely recall their names after they are gone.
Only the ones who make the main desk with their name as one of the news team headliners have any staying power. That's the game and a player shouldn't complain when it happens to that player.
It's a federal law suit. Why would the Bush Administration go after Fox?
Yeah...someone with an agenda is looking for a way to give FOX a hard time.
...and praise God for that.
Maybe the DemocRATS trying to bring down Fox News BEFORE Slime Clinton in Pres?????
I would think so....
ROFL. What's up with that, anyway?
WTF? Does that mean she quit? Or that she stopped showing up for work? Or, more likely, that she did such a crappy job FOX stopped assigning work to her?
If you parse this it does not mean the admin is behind it, just that it has been filed in Fed court.
LOL and right. . .
Of course, it could be worse. . .but could be she was just called a 'boob' or 'butt head'. . .or dumb-a-- . Something ANYone could experience if there are 'problems'.
More to come.. .for sure.
Hmmm. So, the next time
I'm in a WOD thread
and some Manson type
sends a post to me
calling me a ball-less jerk
who enjoys getting
b*ttF*ck#d by the Feds'
jackbooted thugs, does that mean
I can sue FR?
(Don't those FOX women
know that guys talk worse to guys
than they do to girls?!)
I watch Fox a lot and don't ever remember anyone by that name. Does anyone have a photo? I sure can't remember her.
So, now telling someone to "be a man" is a denigration or slur?............
Are they sure it wasn't really Bill O'Reilly? Sounds like his MO.
I did a quick search and she was a promotional and/or marketing director of some sort. I don't have any more information. I don't think she ever made it on air, if that's what your wondering.
Beware the molemen or molewomen......wake up FOX!
Did they file a suit
against the Clinton White House
on behalf of all
the gals who worked there
who didn't get treated cool
like Monica did?
More than likely... lawyers from CNN & MSNBC got ahold of her and filled her head with visions of sugarplums.
Sounds like a guy saying guy stuff to me.
That airhead - Juliette Huddy makes your point.
"It's a federal law suit. Why would the Bush Administration go after Fox?"
Yes, that's the agreement most of us accept when we are employed. And that goes both ways. The employee can quit when they like as well, 'for no reason'.
What I do truly find humorous though, is how teachers think they should be different. Tenure? You've got to be kiddin me.
yes, that's what I was wondering because her name sure didn't ring a bell.
I wasn't really complaining, although on an intellectual level it is frivolus to be featuring short skirts. I feel Kiran Chetry is about as fine as they get, but I don't see her get much write up. I would post her pic but I don't know how.
my first thought also
Ok, her official title:
Fox News Channel
Promotions & Advertising
1211 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10036
O'Reilly yelling "IT WASN'T ME" was heard as far away as nearby New Jersey and Delaware.
Hey, I love watching Juliette Huddy. By the way, what does she do?
So you are saying that Steve Doocy is the "dumb blonde" of the trio?
Ah yes, that's truely a 'Fox babe'. Thanks!
God it must be weird
To have to think in Haiku
All the friggin time
It was a cheap trick to see her picture, but thanks very much. Can you freepmail me on how to post pics?
How come the white house staffers didn't file a lawsuit against Bubba?
Juliet Huddy has disappeared from the Weekend Morning Show...weep weep.... they kept Julian the Jerk and the other two have a week time program now I think. I miss
them and can hardly stomach watching Julian make a fool of himself.
I know I know...
She got a job at CBS or ABC News contingent upon her filing the lawsuit!!!
