From eyewitness accounts, they only saw one guy driving and they thought it was the cab driver. She may have only noticed his brother later and thought it was the cab driver's brother. Noone knows. But we should err on her side. She is the innocent victim here.
It's not about Natalee being missing. It's about a botched "investigation".....if you want to call it that.
And you're right, I read too much into that statement.
Under these same circumstances, absolutely yes. At least at the level of having the governor call for a boycott until we get some cooperation. This is a suitable reaction. IMO

Many investigations are *Botched* and while I think we all can sympathize with Natalie's family's pain it's a bit too much IMHO calling for boycotts, etc, the NEWS has got to stop beating to death stories like Natalie Holloway, Scott Peterson etc, at some point it looses it's impact on society. When something is significant then bring it to the TV screen other than that let's get on with life!
Do you know how many visiting foreigners are murdered in this country? An astounding number. A boycott is not the answer.
"other than that let's get on with life!"
......or maybe just change the channel.
Aruba has set out "straw dummies," and folks are expending their energy on a "wild goose chase" knocking dawn the dummies. This will continue until folks tire of the affair. If the reward is great enough, some enterprising criminals might kidnap the boys, administer truth serum, prepare a transcript and give it to the various freelance investigators. Heck, they may even find the girl imprisoned in a South American or Arab whorehouse.
Of course, if one of them killed your daughter and the rest of them didn't care too much, that would be ok with you.
They flog those stories because a lot of people watch them. When the audience drops off so will the coverage. Don't look for it soon. I read that NBC is starting a new cable channel to be devoted to exclusively to that kind of thing.
I personally favor the boycott and I am glad for the coverage. Not only did the authorities botch the case, purposely perhaps because of who was involved, they lied, covered the facts, and were arrogant about the whole thing while putting on a sweet face with their PR people. I hope the island becomes deserted.
President Bush should respond: "We are a nation of laws and elected officials answer to the voters. If the people of Alabama don't agree with the Governor, they will vote for someone else next time around or organize a recall. I don't see that happening, and the Governor has the right to call for a boycott. I would suggest better cooperation with our FBI and meaningful progress on this case (i.e. arrests and convictions) will restore the confidence of our vacationers."
Of course it would not be okay, but I wouldn't boycott the whole island over it. Well, as a parent maybe I would, but I wouldn't encorage everyone else too.
I am so sick of that Holloway woman. I think that I'll book my next trip to Aruba.
So you would want everyone else to ignore what happened to your daughter?
What happened is a tragedy, and I wouldn't want anyone to ignore what happened to Natalie. The sad truth is that in foreign countries, as in the US, teens go missing all the time. Its actually much rarer in Aruba than anywhere else.
Excellent post. Thanks.
That'll teach 'em.
Well then, if we are are not going to ignore it, then what? A boycott is about all we are left with at the moment.
