Pat Robertson has a message for Dover, PA: Don't ask God to help.

DOVER, Pa. -- Pat Robertson had a special message for residents of Dover, Pa., today after voters there elected to boot the current school board, which instituted an intelligent design policy that led to a federal trial.

Robertson made the comment after Lee Webb of CBN News delivered a report on how residents in Dover voted in eight new Democratic board members, replacing all eight current members who had voted for a policy that required students in ninth-grade biology classes to hear a statement on intelligent design before hearing lessons on evolution. Webb then asked Robertson what he thought about the vote.

Here was Robertson's response.

"I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for his help because he might not be there."

yes, but the difference is that Pat is lumping the city into one collective soul, saying that because the majority of citizens voted against God, that God wouldn't listen to the community.

I remember a certain story in a certain Book where God says He'll spare an entire wicked city, even if there are only a handfull of good people in it.

I normally don't agree with Robertson and wish he'd shut up most of the time. His point here is not completely unfounded, just the way he generalized his statement. I agree that we shouldn't turn our backs on God and then ask His help when the time comes. Essentially, we shouldn't be fairweather followers. But by the same token, I know God won't turn a blind eye to an entire people because the majority rules.

My Lord, Jesus Christ, Man and God, the Messiah of prophecy, lived a perfect life and died on the cross for the people of Dover, Pennsylvania, and for all sinners, including me. Having done that, does He need to have the Father send a disaster over a political issue?

We do want to see an end to inquity; like Isaiah, we say "Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence," but He has done so. Furthermore, He has promised that He will be with us, even to the end of the age.

Yes, there is a judgment coming over the world, but it will be over disbelief in Christ, not intelligent design. The two concepts are only very tenuously related. Mr. Robertson--the coming segment will be for the entire world, to end this age. Speak to that. Speak to the redemptive work of the Cross. Pray for the lost who do not know Jesus as the Christ, Lord, and Savior. Not this, sir.

I think that is just a saying, so that people can explain the unexplainable, or so that insurance companies can get out of paying a claim.

Incredibly petty of Robertson. It's a shame he calls himself a Christian. I'd be much happier if he pretended to represent Islam and embarrassed Muslims on TV instead of Christians.

But weather doesn't have free will. He will use it to get attention if that's what it takes to shake people up if needed.

I can't say that he is wrong. He believes what he believes, and I believe what I believe. I think what he believes is crazy, and he would probably say the same about me. : )
