I think they're right. You want a quirky, funny logo for Veterans Day? Something similar to this Valentine's Day thing? No. The occasion is too solemn and rises above cutesy banners.

"Chesty" Puller's 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. Earlier that day, the same group of landing craft had put the Marines on the beach; now they were returning to extract them. As the LCVPs (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) and LCMs (Landing Craft, Mechanized) reached the shore, Coast Guard Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro steered his LCVP between the evacuating Marines and the Japanese. By interposing his craft between the men on the beach and the enemy, Munro allowed the landing craft to safely evacuate all the Marines, including the wounded.

They didn't run a banner for Katrina relief.
They didn't mourn Rosa Parks' passing.
They didn't honor the nation's workers on Labor Day.
They don't cater to the nation's veterans.
They just have the fastest search engine and some of the neatest free Web programs imaginable.

On a related matter, I heard the news girl on the radio (610, Miami) mentioning today that Wal Mart is going politically correct for Christmas this year (they are not particularly acknowledging it for fear of offending non Christians). Anyway, what the hell I guess, Christmas is not a big deal for retailers anyway, so why should they cater to those few people who celebrate it and might be shopping this time of year?
But I haven't a clue whether that's really true about Wal Mart, or whether the news people have just read the threads here on FR.
