Operation Spread the Truth (Day 2)(Fighting back against liberal lies)

Posted on 11/12/2005 7:25:11 AM PST by HHKrepublican_2

Yesterday, President Bush launched his first round of response fire to the Democrats and Anti-War bafoons who have been attacking and trying to take down our commander in cheif, as well as dishonoring and attacking our troops. Fellow FReeper CharlesWayneCT and I had an idea...start a thread that would be reposted daily about "Spreading the Truth"

Within the past few hours, Scott McClellan has released attacks on Kennedy and Kerry. It seems something is brewing and we should help out!

This thread will be a place for FReepers to co-ordinate call ins to radio stations, letters to editors, rallies, and any other way of Spreading the truth pretaning to the run up to and the Iraq War...

You will find letters to the editor already written, or you can write your own, we also suggest calling into radio stations. I've already sent out a wave of letters to local newspapers in Bergen County, NJ

Please ping anyone who you know might be interested.

Remember:And our debate at home must also be fair-minded. One of the hallmarks of a free society and what makes our country strong is that our political leaders can discuss their differences openly, even in times of war. When I made the decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power, Congress approved it with strong bipartisan support. I also recognize that some of our fellow citizens and elected officials didn't support the liberation of Iraq. And that is their right, and I respect it. As President and Commander-in-Chief, I accept the responsibilities, and the criticisms, and the consequences that come with such a solemn decision.

While it's perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began. (Applause.) Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war. These critics are fully aware that a bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community's judgments related to Iraq's weapons programs.

They also know that intelligence agencies from around the world agreed with our assessment of Saddam Hussein. They know the United Nations passed more than a dozen resolutions citing his development and possession of weapons of mass destruction. And many of these critics supported my opponent during the last election, who explained his position to support the resolution in the Congress this way: "When I vote to give the President of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a threat, and a grave threat, to our security." That's why more than a hundred Democrats in the House and the Senate -- who had access to the same intelligence -- voted to support removing Saddam Hussein from power. (Applause.)

The stakes in the global war on terror are too high, and the national interest is too important, for politicians to throw out false charges. (Applause.) These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an enemy that is questioning America's will. As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who voted to send them to war continue to stand behind them. (Applause.) Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough. (Applause.) And our troops deserve to know that whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our nation is united, and we will settle for nothing less than victory. (Applause.) The fifth element of our strategy in the war on terror is to deny the militants future recruits by replacing hatred and resentment with democracy and hope across the broader Middle East. This is difficult, and it's a long-term project, yet there is no alternative to it. Our future and the future of the region are linked. If the broader Middle East is left to grow in bitterness, if countries remain in misery while radicals stir the resentment of millions, then that part of the world will be a source of endless conflict and mounting danger, in our generation and for the next.

Y'know....... I've been thinking about this. Our morale has been taking one hit after another from the left, while the President has been silent. What took him so long???? I think he's been misunderestimated again. He's a patient man. He's smart, too. He's been waiting.....making sure all the ducks are lined up......waiting.......while the left continues their frenzied digging.......

This is gonna be good.

I recommend this article highly, this is how it ends:

However, there is a lot of anti-war dissent that is primarily motivated by other objectives, or which use methods that are designed not to persuade Americans that policy should be changed, but to interfere with the fighting of the war. Dissenters who are actually furthering some unrelated political objective or simply working out their personal rage may be acting lawfully -- the First Amendment is very powerful mojo -- but they are not acting legitimately. It is not legitimate to damage our war effort and undermine our soldiers because you hate George Bush, want to protect Roe v. Wade, are ideologically opposed to all war, believe that the United States needs to be cut down to size, want to bolster the fortunes of a particular Democratic candidate or Democrats in general, believe that the State Department has been disrespected, believe that the Pentagon is inept and corrupt, or want to discredit Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld. If you do that, you are being frivolous with the lives of our soldiers and helping the enemy without the benefit of having advanced the important public discussion over whether we should change American foreign policy. In short, your objectives and therefore your dissent are illegitimate, and it is fair for your opponents to attack you as unpatriotic. You are.

Similarly, if you use tactics that interfere with American policy -- if you attempt to obstruct military recruitment, campaign against American policy outside of the United States or to primarily foreign audiences, demonstrate against weapons manufacturers simply because they are weapons manufacturers, and so forth -- you are deliberately undermining the American capacity to win the war. This is not legitimate anti-war dissent (again, even if it is lawful), and it is by no measure patriotic.

Finally, and obviously, hypocritically arguing in front of the world that the President of the United States lied to or misled the United States Senate is to give aid and comfort to the enemy and undermine our soldiers for no constructive purpose other than political advantage. Fatuous claims that we must argue this issue now -- during the war and in the midst of great uncertainty in Iraq -- so it "never happens again" are nothing but a fig leaf to cover up the awful truth -- that anybody who makes this argument is sacrificing America's best interests for their own.

Questioning Patriotism

It's been interesting to see various bbloggers talking about the issue of honesty to the historical record.

I must say this is refreshing. For the longest time I was one of the few people in the blogosphere willing to openly call some people unpatriotic. I heard the "don't question my patriotism" line at least hundreds of times more often than I ever saw anyone question someone's patriotism, but I admit to doing it--and unapologetically so. I've also explained, hundreds of times, what constitutes unpatriotic dissent from patriotic dissent.

Culled from comments I've made in the past, here's a handy list you might find useful:

You might be unpatriotic if:

#1) You think publishing slanderous allegations about American troops based on nothing but hearsay is what constitutes "good journalism."

#2) You believe that news stories which show gloom and doom and pessimism and failure for our troops at war constitutes nothing but good reporting--but that stories of heroism, major accomplishment, building friendships with people in foreign lands, and victory are "touting the Administration line."

3) You refer to the "the President's war" as opposed to "our war."

#4) You think the average American voter is a stupid, unsophisticated idiot who just doesn't know what's good for him.

#5) You think Michael Moore's movie Fahrenheit 9/11 is anything other than vile fascist hate-propaganda.

#6) You find nothing offensive at all about burning an American flag.

#7) When America has an enemy that slaughters our people, your first and foremost reaction is "we must have really offended them--we should figure out why so they won't be mad at us anymore."

#8) You think American foreign policy is the primary explanation for world poverty, suffering, injustice, and terrorism. (We may offend people sometimes, and do wrong sometimes--we aren't perfect after all--but the primary explanation for these things?)

#9) You call those prosecuting the war "liars" when you simply disagree with them.

#10) You believe that any of the sentiments expressed here are "conservative," "right-wing" or "Republican."

This is a good list of why it is so hard to get past these dunderheads. This is the "in defense of liberals" talking point bible. Read it, Learn it, Know how to recognize the self-deception they've come to live by:

Lies About Liberals

The time has come for someone to set the record straight. Obviously the media won't do it and I'm growing more and more afraid the Democrats can't do it. Someone has to get the message out that the vast majority of information and opinion that is circulating about American liberals is utter nonsense. From the mischaracterizations of the Bush administration to the rabid anti-liberal hate of the media to the stunning ignorance of the average voter, it's almost all wrong.

At the lower levels - voters, local politicians - I am willing to give conservatives the benefit of the doubt. I'll let them get away with saying that they just don't know any better. Heck, most of them have probably never met a liberal. And those who have probably only remember the crazy-sounding, granola-crunching, loud-talking, bicycling-all-over-town-without-showering, ZZ-top-beard-growing guy with a strange hat, a Nader t-shirt and sandals on. Let me make it perfectly clear that these people are not liberals. These people are socialists or Communists. And unless you are ignorant or evil, you know that there are huge differences between liberals and socialists and Communists.

At the higher levels - pundits, writers, politicians, presidents - there is no excuse. These people work with liberals on a daily basis. These people debate with liberals regularly. These people are completely knowledgeable about what liberals really stand for and really do. These people are unmitigated and unrepentant liars. And this isn't just a few people, this is a huge wave of hate and bile that is being told to the public as truth, when, in reality, it couldn't possibly be any more untrue. Listen to any conservative politician talk about liberals, watch any television news show that features a conservative, listen to any show on talk radio, go to one of the hundreds, if not thousands, of anti-liberal web sites online - in all of these places you will find a broad and deep flood of bullshit being spouted about liberals. Much of it will be the exact opposite of what liberals actually believe and stand for.

Below is a composite list of the many lies that I have come across. These have come from many sources, but I'll only include the sources that are readily accessible online so that you can go read the original yourself. These lies come from a variety of sources - from prominent national figures to lowly nobodies whose most famous moment in life will be when I publish this essay on my web page. I will update this list as I come across more. The numbers after each lie correspond to the sources they came from, which are listed at the end of this page.

Too bad, So sad, They [liberals] still lose, Buh-by.

Rule number one has to be "Stop repeating the false accusations of the left in your denial of them." I don't know how many times I see congressmen and senators repeat an allegation and then deny it. Stay on-message: lower taxes -- make'm permanent, less government regulation of legitimate economic activity -- including the manufacture and sale of gasoline, more strict constructionist judges. And most of all, keep the base energized and stop trying to appease people who will NEVER vote for a conservative, e.g., watch the Santorum campaign self-destruct. The next time a RINO, liberal, or xenophobe bemoans war, remind them that 35,000 or more Americans are sacrificed every year on our own roads and highways. A good way to keep more people alive would be to avoid driving -- if that is your real interest. Anyone up to protesting at the local gas station for fueling a 2000# weapon built by a in-human corporation and bought with financing from a drug-money-laundering bank?
