I would add they need to emphasize that we are part of a Coalition representing dozens of countries who also believe the cause is right and just. In addition, we are winning because of our unparalled U.S. Armed Forces, who are both warriors and humanitarians.

Kay Bailey H (not usually as good as Cornyn at spreading the message) is standing firm against timetable for withdrawal on TV and I am relieved..Talking about how we would never be trusted again if we cut and ran from Iraq.

I missed Rummy but enjoyed the commentary..I'll watch later.

I guess what I am getting at is this. Were these tons of uranium known to be in country in 1998? If so, why didn't Clinton destroy the site during his extended bombing campaign in 1998-1999?

And were these tons of uranium claimed in the report given to the UN? If so, why didn't the IAEA take them?

Found a cool link: http://www.cia.gov/cia/reports/iraq_wmd/Iraq_Oct_2002.htm#04

Rummy also announced today that the stories about lions being told by former prisoners was partly true. The lions were captured after the fall of Bagdad, transferred to a secure compound, which was located right next to the former Iraqi WMD depot. So, one night the lions broke in, and, ina variant of " the dog ate my homework," they ate ALL the WMD. Which is why we haven't been able to produce them. The lions became ill, obviously, and their howls scared the prisoners. We had to kill and cremate the lions to prevent environmental contamination. SO, no lions, AND no WMD..sorry..

This whole thing stinks. The IAEA supposedly tagged 500 tons of uranium, 1.8 tons were enriched to a low level. This uranium was stolen from Tuwaitha, the uranium dumped out and the barrels sold and used for drinking water? And we only found at the time of the report 100 of 3000 barrels? How do we know this was all tagged uranium? And again, why didn't the IAEA take out the uranium when we had inspectors in there before the war? So many questions.

If nothing else, it shows sloppy work with little oversight and provides evidence for an organization which really doesn't care so much about who has what.

Unfortunately, just missed the press conference.

Any idea where a transcript or video can or will be found?

According to Richard Miniter in his book Disinformation, on June 23,2004 U.S. forces seized 1.77 metric tons of enriched uranium(partially enriched). U.S.Dept. of Energy experts also removed 1,000 radioactive materials in "powdered form" which is easily dispersed. The material would have been ideal for a radioactive dirty bomb.

Miniter has other WMD discoveries in his book.

Yea, but from here:

http://newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/7/7/221342.shtml

I found this (I know its newsmax):

"In 1992, after the first Gulf War, all highly enriched uranium - which could be used to make nuclear weapons - was shipped from Iraq to Russia, the IAEA's Zlauvinen said.

After 1992, roughly 2 tons of natural uranium, or yellow cake, some low enriched uranium and some depleted uranium was left at Tuwaitha under IAEA seal and control, he said."

Why did they leave 2 tons of uranium? Where did the other 500 tons come from if the IAEA only left 2 tons? They left the unrefined 500 tons too?

think the administration has blown it over the past year with the only message being "stay the course".

Well if you think that it if fairly obvious you are not even trying to listen to what Bush has been saying for over a year. Maybe "Conservatives" should stop taking all their "news" start off the Dinosaur Media wire. That "Stay the course" lie is just DNC propaganda. It's sickening to hear supposedly Conservative Pundits echoing the DNC talking point as if it was reality. It is especially inexcusable for Freepers to be so ignorant of Iraq ground realities considering the dozens of posts Sandrat and Gucho post here every day about what is going on in Iraq.

All the Senate did today was try to claim credit for what the Administration is all ready DOING. Stupid move by the PR incompetent Senate Leadership. Warner and Levin should of been told to go screw themselves the leadership isn't going to play this game. Tom Delay would of done that.

Kay Bailey Hutchison is my Senator and she and Cornyn BOTH voted for Warner's amendment....which doesn't set well with me, at all.

Bush has used that "stay the course" phrase himself many times, let's get real here, I have heard him say it. Bush himself has not explained the evolving mission objectives - not the way you have to explain it to the average "dolt" that is the typical american.

its not a question as to what people here on FR, who follow news stories closely, know about the things going on in iraq - we are not the demographic that needs to be "won over".
