Oh, boo-hoo-hoo. A partial collapse of the UN and its ability to project influence would be a welcome sight indeed.

The UN has overwhelmingly proven itself to be a creator of problems, while demonstrating time and time again that it is woefully UNsuccessful at actually solving anything at all...
which is why most Americans see the UN as being about as useful as a hole in the head.

Palpatine used the Dark Side to mask his true intent... total control of the Senate and the galaxy. The Galactic Senate- a weak, corrupt, and ineffectual gang of politicians- was easily led over the cliff. They weren't toppled by him... they were convinced that quashing an "uprising" would preserve their power, so they followed him. That uprising, however, was by a group that sought freedom from tyranny. He's more like Kofi than anyone.
