TV has gone beyond being a vast wasteland and become a vast dumpster.
Agree 110%...what a shame.

My father would not even let us watch Hogan's Heroes- he thought it was terrible to make a comedy about WWII POW's.
My mom was the same. And, for the same reasons as your dad's.

Since the list hasn't limited itself to Hollywood produced TV moments, how about (in no particular order):
Bud Dwyer suicide???
Challenger disaster???
Columbia disaster???
Reagan assassination atempt???
Pope JPII assassination attempt???
They seem to have missed the boat for Unexpected AND Memorable for these and many others. BTW anything produced and in the can is NOT unexpected IMHO...

That was so funny! And, remember Archie asking Sammy if he wanted a little cream in his "eye" (instead of his "coffee")...after telling everyone else not to mention anything about Sammy's fake eye!

It is, but a close second would be the MTM show about the death of Chuckles the Clown.

Clinton was impeached by the house - the senate failed to remove him from office. Let's not forget!

If you want to include local TV moments, there was that chick in Sarasota that blew her brains out on TV back around the 1973 timeframe.

Yeah, this was after they had been offered millions for appearing as a group.

and the funny part was that George Harrison was on a few weeeks later and they showed him arguing with Lorne Michaels saying "well I guess I thought for 4 Beatles $3000, then for one Beatle I could get $750"...
Lorne shook his head and settled for him making the "Live from NY..It's SNL" opening

And I am deeply saddened to note that Chris Farley's Matt Foley coffee-table smush is excluded. Look, it's about to happen!

IIRC, it was Niven, who waited until the laughter had died down, and said, "He's just showing his shortcomings."

Another, possibly apocryphal, Tonight Show moment: Arnold Palmer's wife saying that for good luck she kisses Arnold's (golf) balls before a match and Carson replying "I'll bet that makes his putter stand up".

How about the Seinfeld episode when Kramer kissed Jerry full on the mouth? I've forgotten which episode it was.

I hope you're kidding. I could care less if a political hack from either party owns up to something. They're all crooked anyway. But funny moments like the Newhart ending, the WKRP episode, or sad ones like when Radar announces Col. Blake's death or the end of MASH were things I remember to this day.
Politicians are the epitome of mediocrity. Their apologies are not good TV
