They tried to damage the process, but now see it's impossible to stop, so they've might as well get out in front. ????

Are you talking about the Baathists or the Democrats?

LOL! Isn't it just like the liberals to hope for the worst and cry when someone says so.

Looks like the Sunnis have finally realized that they are not going to be able to bully their way into power and the only options left are to vote in what power they can or be left out in the cold.

... guerrillas in the western insurgent heartland of Anbar province say they are even prepared to protect voting stations from fighters loyal to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Yeah, sure, "protect" the voting stations. That's like Democrats "protecting" ballots here in the USA. Look good committing fraud.

These people aren't our friends.
"Zarqawi is an American, Israeli and Iranian agent who is trying to keep our country unstable so that the Sunnis will keep facing occupation," said a Baathist insurgent leader who would give his name only as Abu Abdullah.
This is just another example of where evil turns on evil. Evil people are unwilling to share or compromise so it is natural that a conflict is occurring between Al Qaeda and the Baathists in Iraq (who have vastly different visions of what the country should be). I'm just surprised that it took so long. Remember, these Baathists have killed Americans and Iraqis. They aren't turning on Al Qaeda because of newly found patriotism. They want power and the Iraqi elections have forced their hand.

The Baathist warning to al Qaeda raises the possibility of a wider rift between secular Saddam loyalists and fundamentalist militants, who have been cooperating in their efforts to drive out U.S. forces.

The Baathists would gladly line up and machine gun every last Sunni extremist in the country. Necessity made allies of them, but the Baathists know that it will be a disaster if the Sunnis are shut out of this election. The Kurds and Shiites certainly aren't staying home. Now that they've accepted that the new government is an inevitible reality, they're cutting the religious fanatics off.

AQIZ, on the other hand, doesn't have the luxury of saying 'If you can't beat em, join em'. They're in this fight to the death, and their biggest ally just joined the other team. The best AMZ can hope for now is for his terrorist crew to be passively tolerated. If they arent', and Sunni infighting starts up on a large scale, they won't last long.

"Saddam Hussein loyalists who violently opposed January elections have made an about-face as Thursday's polls near, urging fellow Sunni Arabs to vote and warning al Qaeda militants not to attack. In a move unthinkable in the bloody run-up to the last election, guerrillas in the western insurgent heartland of Anbar province say they are even prepared to protect voting stations from fighters loyal to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq. "

Murtha, Kerry, Pelosi and the rest of the Defeaticrats are deeply saddened.

I'm more optimistic. Other news today says 90 per cent of the Iraqi's are itching to vote. Could this be the real deal?

This is supicious. The majority Sunnis are going to turn out to vote in large numbers. And they're being encouraged to do so by Ba'athists.

Maybe I'm being cynical, but what happens if they decide to elect this guy--- as a write-in candidate?

The world has gone upside down for the Democrats.

The Democrats thrive not only on US body counts, but also on economic depressions where people lose their jobs, homes, and savings. Things are presently going very, very badly for the Democrats. It is no wonder they have gone so goofy and hysterical.

Now THIS has been the running truth about Iraq since Baghdad fell. It's totally SHOCKING to see this coming from the mass media ANYWHERE, because it's been suppressing the simple truth for so long. DON'T misunderstand me: I DO NOT think that disband Saddam's military was a bad thing to do; it was the only intelligent choice to make if we REALLY wanted to achieve the objectives stated. It's just Iraqi nationalism that I'm commenting on, nothing deeper.

Sounds good. This is precisely what the libs fear: the train headed for a 21st century Mid-East leaves the station without 'em.

20 years from now, they will have been on board all along.
