And in some of them, God has been pushed out to allow Satan to come in and settle down.

"If there is a riot then I guess Tookie's little book didn't teach anyone anything. It will just make me laugh louder.
"Sounds like you wouldn't mind a little rioting if it served your point, huh?"

You only quoted part of my statement. You can't make a point about my statement without the whole thing.
I don't want anyone to get hurt if there is one.
Plus, a riot would further prove his little book didn't make a difference.

You may be right about the naive part.

However, I have a certain frustration with the way the death penalty is handled in the US. He's been on death row for 25 years (I know, it's California). He's lived an entire life behind bars that he should never have been allowed to live at all. Really, this entire story is the direct effect of a slow and often ineffective penal system. He should have been executed years ago. Now we have the issue of his other life and the other things he's done to consider. At least I do. I think it's at least worth weighing in my own mind when I think about this case.

And, by the by - I believe the death penalty should be used, but it should be used sparingly and only in certain circumstances. It is irreversible and ultimate. It deserves real and serious respect.

Too preachy?

I take your points. 25 years is indeed too long for the victims' families. When you take four lives, you can never make up for it. Gray Davis rightly commuted three killers --- they were all women who killed their husbands after years of suffering abuse. That was a proper use of clemency.
