Isn't it funny? They don't trust the government except on this one point. They fell hook, line and sinker for this one.

The thing that gets me is that it's always marijuana that's demonized. If marijuana were legalized states can cure their budget woes in one fell swoop. The crime associated with weed would virtually disappear, and states would have more tax revenue.

Like the Clintons?

Clinton didn't "smoke" pot, remember? Getting a contact high didn't turn him into a pyschopath.

Everyone knows that with the real harsh stuff you have to wash it down with a few beers. Kidney failure was cause by alcohol probably, not pot?

People die from marijuana pneumonitis and allergic reactions all the time. Source?

"A chronic marijuana user asked me if the drug affects the immune system. Does it?" inquires E.J. FRANCZAK, MD, of Agincourt, ON.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the major active component of cannabis, or marijuana. Receptors to THC have been found on B cells, natural killer cells, neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes and macrophages (Life Sci 1999; 65:637-644). Marijuana has measurable in vitro effects on the immune system, particularly in reducing cell-mediated immunity, which might increase susceptibility to infection. Clinical studies in humans so far, though, haven't demonstrated that these effects are clinically relevant (J Allergy Clin Immunol 1976;58:483-490). Chronic smoking of marijuana, however, can raise one's susceptibility to respiratory infection and cancer (Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev. 1999;8:1071-1078). If the marijuana is contaminated with mould spores, which is common, smoking it may lead to allergic asthma, infection or hypersensitivity pneumonitis (J Allergy Clin Immunol 1983;71:389-393).

Sounds unlikely that her problems were caused by cannabis.

People die of peanut allergies too, and probably more often. What's your point?

Just that death from marijuana is common. (see post 55)

A five month bout with pneumonia meant an awful lot of antibiotics which probably caused the kidney failure in addition to the diabetes. She was already losing it mentally if she had diabetic neuropathy.

ROTFL so they get sick from the mold and that's your evidence? Do you have any links to any deaths at all?

That aside, it will hurt the pro-pot crowd. Look at some of the other posts about how this will be "sensationalized" in the UK.

Think before you post that is the difference between us and the DU.

Never met anyone who smoked pot who had anything like those problems. But have known (and been related to) many who died or became completely screwed up because of booze. It is doubtful your friends only smoked pot. Chances are they had multiple addictions in addition to smoking.

What passage in your quoted material supports your contention that "death from marijuana is common"?

Raising susceptibility is not the same as "causing" death. How 'bout the passage that states "Clinical studies in humans so far, though, haven't demonstrated that these effects are clinically relevant". How does that support your contention.

developed mental problems after taking pot?

This is actually true.

I once many years ago took some pot and developed a lot of guilt so I replaced it.

I never again took any pot that wasn't mine.

Of course it affects the immune system. But you claimed (as shown above) that: "People die from marijuana pneumonitis and allergic reactions all the time"

Your follow-up post does *nothing* to prove your original assertion. Of course, you already know that.

Isn't it funny? They don't trust the government except on this one point. They fell hook, line and sinker for this one.

Just as Canada abandoned her free-born heritage in '68 with the election and subsequent re-election of that sonofab*tch Trudeau, Americans went down the socialist road when they got swept up by FDR and his New Deal in the '30s. The most intractable features of American Socialism, such as marijuana prohibition, are rooted in that era.

The 20th Century Carnival of Socialism is far from over.

This post has got to hurt the "innocent until proven guilty" crowd. It'll ptobably also put a serious smackdown on the crowd all in to that "logic" garbage. That fact is, this lady died, she had been "taking" pot in a modified medicinal form, so therefore pot kills. See? Logic!

How about waiting until the report comes back to see if maybe, just possibly, her being diabetic had anything at all to do with her death? A person that age, already into neopathy to that stage... not terribly surprising there'd be a death involved. Better check what she ate. We might find that Twinkies kill, or roast beef kills. Sure would hurt the "food is good for you" crowd then, wouldn't it? There's a huge difference between circumstantial evidence, guilt by association, and cause and effect.

A few observations.

She took the sativex for 23 days. Then was admitted to the hospital, and died 5 months later. So for the 5 months prior to her dying she did not take the substance. Not sure how then that was what killed her, considering her many other health related problems.

She died over a year and a half ago. All this time and just now they are going to investigate the death? Seems to me this is another phishing expidition to try to pin this death on THC. Chalk up another 'victory' inthe war on drugs.
