One of the best side-effects of the invasion of Iraq was the spread of the hope for democracy to the people of the Middle East. We saw the effects of this in Lebanon earlier this year. We are seeing the same thing starting to happen in Iran.

Have you ever done business in Iran? Our neighbor here in NC is married to an Iranian woman. She speaks perfect English. Her father was a mercantile trader. Her net worth is over U$D 1m. She is married to an American (third generation German descent) who has a net worth of over U$D 2m. They just built a million dollar home on Lake James; no debt.

As an aside, it is a shame that people who have never travelled or met anyone other than a neighbor down the block, seem to be experts in a global world.

How can a man embrace the Lord's will as his own except by the Lord's grace and through his own free will? Does the Lord want your servitude? Does He want slaves? Does he want free men and free women to be his people?
To me the answer is obvious.
You Iranians have been a tough bunch for quite a spell. The Mongols had little respect for other breeds.
As you can see I am not a secularist. I am however a student of war. Some very very sharp people are doing everything possible to prevent wholesale destruction and slaughter in Iran. The most formidable of these people is George W. Bush.
Things are going to get worse before they get better. I wish it were not so. You and your friends are on the right track. Take care of yourselves as much as possible. Your people need you.
By the way you ARE free. Freedom is in the heart first. Justice comes afterward.

I used to hope that the Iranians were pro-American and coming to their senses... but after seeing how their last elections went and how things continue to go downhill there, I have lost all hope for them.
I would rather see them get bombed back to the stone-age than be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. We do not need WMD in the hands of madmen.
Hopefully the Israelis will take care of this one. Iran's mad President has been mouthing off about Israel non-stop lately. He needs to glow in the dark.
I still think that the United States has been presented with the best opportunity to help change a tyranical regime from within since Poland. The United States supported the Solidarity Union not just by intel, but also by sending fax machines (no internet then) and tremendous moral support, including from the American unions (mind you, this was when Lane Kirkland was running things. A lib, but still old school. Also Pope John Paul II was a major ally against the Evil Empire.). The student movement in Iran is a repeat of what happened in Poland.
