LIVE THREAD: Cloture vote on the Patriot Act Reauthorization bill - C-span 2 9:30 am EST
C-span 2

Posted on 12/16/2005 6:13:47 AM PST by ken5050

This morning, the Senate meets at 9:30 for a cloture vote on the Patriot Act Reauthorization Bill. Dems have vowed to filabuster it, ( though it's not clear if all will support the filabuster) joined by 4 Republicans. Should be fireworks on the floor..President Bush yesterday firmly called upon the Senate to support the Patriot Act, and many Republicans can't believe the Dems would be stupid enough to do this. So follow along...

If the Patriot Act goes down then I hope the President gets in front of the cameras and tell the American people that,"because of the Senate, on Jan 1 American People will no longer be as safe as they were on the day prior and if something tragic should happen those who voted against cloture could have the blood of innocent people on their hands".

IMO ... SOME STAFFERS IN THE SENATE INTEL COMMITTEE .. most likely from Rockefeller's office

IMO, it's a continuation of the timeline of events from the day the Democrats shut down the Senate a month or so ago, from a DNC memo that's been known for well over a year.

If leaders are on the losing side, they frequently change their vote. Only members on the losing side can bring up the bill or amendment for future re-consideration.

This is in Roberts' Rules from the middle of the last century. If your local boards of any kind go by Roberts' Rules, this rule applies to them, also.

Frist holds but the Rats with their hard heads would rather see America suffer another attack than to do what's right.

It's a normal procedure to keep the debate open

The debate is open anyway - cloture is a mechanism to cut off debate.

Who were the Republicans who voted against keeping the public safe?
